Dog Breeds

Post » Wed Apr 07, 2010 3:02 pm

Something bothers me about the dogs in Fallout 3.

They are either Blue Heelers or generic brown mastiff types.

Now Dogmeat being a Blue Heeler. fine.

But a lot of other Blue Heelers about? Nearly very other dog that is not vicious?

Blue heelers are native to Australia going by their alternate name Australian Cattle Dog.

I have never seen one outside of Fallout 3 and the Mad Max films.

So why would a load of them be in a America that closed it's borders before the great nuclear war?

A place that controls it's people buy all kinds of horrible means would let in a load of foriegn imported dogs?

Among the dogs that are big or strong I would expect to see in america in the fallout games would be huskies, alsations, german shepherds, border collies, old english sheepdogs, labradors, great danes, dalmations, retrievers, gun dogs, bulldogs (of the proper sort, not the inbred crushed face sort), mastiffs, terriers, rottwielers and bull terriers.

I know chiuwawas are native to Mexico, but no one wants to see a mutant chiuwawa.

I know Dogmeat and the Dogmeat in F1 and F2 are Blue Heelers because they are a tribute to Mad Max films.

Nice looking dogs.

But a bit illogical.

I mean, why would nearly every dog that was not vicious be a Blue Heeler?

Why are there not a mix of dogs about?

At least some huskies or something. They are part wolf. Surely they would survive.

One answer is they programmed two dog forms and that was it apart from Dogmeats unique appearance.

But it is still illogical.

Why are there not mutated wolves in the game?

If dogs survived relatively unmutated, why are there not mutated wolves about?

I would like a wolf companion, lol. :D

I am going with the simple answer: They are mutts. The dogs that survived and had the ability to live without people breed into one type.

. Fallout 2 and Tactics have wolves. Fallout New Vegas has those big dogs the Legion own. As well as coyotes

Because there are thousadns of dog breeds (over exageration) and it would be impossible to put all of them in game.

So they chose the coolest ones they could think of. Obviously they chiose wrong because Huskies are not in and neither are Wolves. Assuming you are speaking only FO3 and FNV

They're mutts. Have you ever seen a Feral Dog before they look mangy and are usally mean. Pure breed dogs are generally breed to be less aggresive towards humans. Most Pure breed dogs would die from not being able to hunt for themselves
