So my dog(stray dog) has disappeared, I've had problems with this dog prior as it would not stay at my hearthfire house as a pet for my kids(it would just walk off and never return). I wouldnt care TBH but the problem I'm having is the game acts as if I still have a dog follower so I cannot get a new dog.

Anyone have any idea or tips on how to trouble shoot this on consoles?(360)

Didn't they update the game where you can see where you left your followers?

Stray dogs over time will return to their original home. Just go back to where you found him and release him.

I found him during a random encounter, so TBH I dont think I'll be able to find the spot again after so many hours. Any tips on that?

Edit: is there a quest or event in the game that forces your followers to leave you and return to their home/w/e?
