In all seriousness, the dog might not be referenced as male or female in game, and won't have an obvious pair of goolies, so you can roleplay the dog as you like.

Even if they say that it's a male dog called Dogmeat, you could always just RP that the dog's owners were stupid drunks who couldn't even tell the difference between male and female dogs. With that, you're free to call that dog Milly.

I would like Realism to extend to the Coat of the Dog based on the Dogs six, Female Dogs have better coats and usually a fuller tail than a Male. I would also like a choice in the breed. Some Players may want a Boston Terrifier

I doubt Bethesda would put that much detail into the game, as to allow dog gender to be male or female. More than likely the dog will be gender neutral or standard male. An option to have either would be nice, but I am hesitant to hold my breath. Living tends to require me to be breathing.

Now we're talking mods, which I'm sure will be plenty of.
