Dog won't wear armor?

Post » Mon Nov 30, 2015 5:31 am

i killed a dog that had dog armor on it, but when I give it to dogmeat, he doesn't wear it. I was disappointed. Is there something I'm supposed to do to make him equip it?

thanks in advance!

Yes, after putting armor/weapon in companion's inventory you need to click it and press Equip button ("T" for PC, check hints below trade screen) to put it on. Otherwise how companion would know if you want him to use this item, or just carry around for you.

As a follow on question, i found the same armor and equipped it to Dogmeat but it has no defensive values... just a cosmetic thing then or it doesnt display for some other reason? i thought maybe since it was dog armor a human wouldnt see the values but i was able to see the rating for Super Mutant armor that i likewise cant wear.

1) command Dogmeat
2) click "Transfer"
3) give Dogmeat the armor
4) look at the options under your pipboy. "Y" is to equip.

All the dog armor I found so far is no stat gear, meant for cosmetic purposes alone.

It kind of looks like that may be hard coded, not sure why.

Have not found dog armor or geat that gives stats yet either.

Until and unless I do, dogmeat just looks cooler to me in bandana and goggles if the armor is just going to be cosmetic.

Oh, hell , I've got to keep eyes peeled for doggy bandana and goggles.

Not seen that yet. He'd be a riot in that get up.

However, I since discovered Piper and am towing her along as I find her amusing and she doesn't

Spoiler

shed (fur) hair, chew on toy bears, breath heavy, or bark at

the worst times

, nor does she seem to be always under my feet when I try to back up.

However I'm sure she'll find ways to irritate me unique to her but I'll get my revenge by dressing her up in something 'naughty' once proper dress attire mods

arrive for those of the female gender.

They are super common items but remodeled a bit to look right when worn by dogmeat.

Goggles are the welding goggles you collect by the dozens killing raiders - dogmeat starin at me with his goggle look always cracks me up..

Doggie bandana is also plentiful in form of any bandana mask the raiders wear, best one I've found is a skull bandana that looks awesome on dogmeat. (Vs normal 'red bandana' which is cool but not as awesome as the skull bandana)

In my mind, dogmeat needs his bandana bib to keep all the raider blood from splashing his fur. Just like eating lobster, dogmeat with his perk is a useful tank companion but needs his baby bib to keep the splash and gore off.

@#$%, I didn't even know our companions could equip things. I figured they could, but I was expecting them to do it automatically when I placed it in their inventory.

I gotta believe in one of the first design meetings they ever had, they said 'ok guys - whatever we do with companions, we cant be as dumb as vanilla skyrim with all the confusion and conflicts between what gear your companion uses, doesnt use, equips but magically goes back to using hunting bow, etc.'

In FO4 it seems the manual equip button was designed expressly to avoid much of the grief we had with skyrim followers without mods.

Ah, I see! I wasn't around for Skyrim vanilla. Didn't play the game until maybe a year after it came out.

Is it possible to "lock" the gear on companions? so you don't "Strip" them if you use "take all"
