Dogmeat Dead :'(

Post » Sat Apr 02, 2011 4:32 am

BTW I am totally not a dog person I never liked them :\ I also JUST got Fallout 3 (I know I'm a little late better now then never right?)

One day I was walking around in the wasteland, feeling lonely as ever with only the irritating radio jockey "Three Dog" keeping me company. The sky and well, everything else still looked like a greenish gray. Nothing had changed, until I went in the scrapyard. I was scouring for spare metal and tin cans when I heard shooting in the distance, I decided to check it out. What I saw was out of the ordinary, it was a dog fighting off some raiders, I decided to help the poor animal and killed the last raider with my chinese assault rifle. I then proceded to "speak" the the dog and found out his name was Dogmeat and his owner was dead. My first thought was that I could finally have a friend in this dump. I decided to take him and we headed out into a great friendship. We had the best of adventures, we started doing things I would never do alone such as attack the raiders in the Springvale Elementary, or just walk around. He saved my life many times, and I saved his. He was always by my side ready to get me supplies or fight some raiders. But then the day came, I decided to continue the mission to find my father, we headed out to the Jefferson Memorial and went in the Gift shop, this would be the last time I would see my best friend. We went through trying to find my fathers holotapes, we then reached the basemant. Just a basemant, we went in looking for the holotapes. On my right I saw a Super Mutant Brute and two super mutants, nothing me and my best friend couldn't handle. We started fighting them and then the unthinkable happened, I ran out of ammo. I had stocked up at Megaton before I left but I had used a lot since then. I thought that I could just use a different weapon but I was wrong. I finally found a 10mm Submachine gun lying around and used it. It didn't help much but it killed them. I was about to tell Dogmeat to get out before he dies but he ran to another super mutant and started attacking him at low health. I realized what was about to happen and then the message flashed across my screen "Dogmeat has died". My heart sunk. My best friend, my ONLY friend in the wasteland, was gone forever. ( I don't have Broken Steel so no pups, besides it wouldn't be the same) I was enraged at the super mutant, whom I brutally killed with a nail board. I got the tapes and made sure that every super mutant payed for killing my best friend. I walked outside with my only companion and laid him to rest at the Jefferson Memorial. I made a promise to him, that he would not have died in vain and I would find my father even if it meant ending the game. I would also make sure the Super Mutant race pay for their crimes. Thanks for my life Dogmeat. I will use it for good.

He died in honor. I have the puppies perk so.. :/. You should return to the basemant before activating the purifier and tell him the mission is accomplised.

if it makes you feel better, next time dogmeat will get stronger when you level up. (he becomes a sort of super dog at level 20 and higher.)

Yea get broken steel. There is a perk that if Dogmeat ever dies. A new born offspring of Dogmeat pops up. Every-time. :)

I liked Dogmeat too much so I never ever took him out with me. He would always run off and get lost. Then I'd never see him again..

thats too bad, I didnt get dogmeat till level 19 and now Ive been with him for a while up to level 27 and hes a beast now. He took out a deathclaw by himself with only loosing about 1/7th of his health. The only problem is once we got ambushed by 4 reavers and to get him back from like 40% health took like 10 stims

My first Dogmeat in my first game died protecting me and Jericho from a Giant Ant Queen. :( I raged and unloaded the full fury of my combat shotty on her while spamming stims. It was too sad.

Sorry for your loss. :(

It's not really your fault, though; the poor thing was too loyal for his own good. And did you take his meat? You should as a way of remembering him.

You could get Broken Steel, too, but I don't like the puppies as much -- they're way too strong and I feel like I don't even need to look after them, which in my opinion defeats the point of having a pet companion.

Oh, and you could try get another friend to follow you; some of the companions are pretty interesting, and might fill a part of the void.

I heard that about puppies too, that they are too powerful or something. I did take his meat, and I did not sell it either. I am currently saving for the robot that the barter near the Robo factory is selling. Def not as real as a dog but I need something. Is the robot any good or would you suggest something else??

Without Broken Steel, he's pretty damn good; RL-3 is tough, has good weapons, can carry a lot of loot and is funny (which is good for someone in your situation). However, with Broken Steel, he becomes invincible like Fawkes and Dogmeat's puppies, because he is non-humanoid.

Personally, I would suggest Jericho as well due to his ability to, possibly, make you laugh at the way he acts. But, then again, he doesn't seem to be the kind of person you'd want to hang around with when someone you were close to just passed.

Haha, no problem at all. If you were ever going to get Fallout 3, I guess now would be a good time, considering it'll give you A LOT to do before New Vegas comes. Who knows, you may not be finished with F3 when NV is here! Imagine that.

Anyway, enjoy Fallout 3!

"Invincible" maybe, "invulnerable" no. I was very startled to get the message "Fawkes has died."

Memo: don't allow heavy, clumsy companions to follow you onto an overpass.

I enjoyed having Fawkes as a philosophical follower (and killing machine). Overpowered, but entertaining, and of course he can be fired (or left waiting so long that he wanders off to the museum).

I don't know the OP's karma level, and that limits choice of followers (i.e. Fawkes good, Jericho bad, etc). Also, while money can't buy you love, money can buy you Charon's contract.

I just looked for about 5 min in the scrapyard and found him, it takes some waiting to find him.

I got Dogmeat at level 22 and he can do some damage.

Too bad we can't take Dogmeat on Mothership Zeta, Boy would I loved to see him maul some aliens to death and get weapons I can't find.

Its also a pity that Bethesda didn't make it where you can name Dogmeat what you wanted. I would have named him either Jerry Lee or some other name that sounded better.

Naw, it's Fallout tradition for the dog companion to be called Dogmeat -- it goes back to the first Fallout, if I recall correctly.

I wanted to ask about Dogmeat on this thread,

Can Dogmeat be killed?

Because the one I got seems to be very strong and never needs healing because he killed 2 deathclaws and 2 robots (the ones that shoots missiles and fires a Gatlin laser) and survived an accidental plasma grenade I tossed.

Just wondering because even if he does take damage he seems to heal all the way as soon as battle is done.
