Dogmeat to Far Harbor.. Mandatory?

Post » Fri Mar 18, 2016 9:25 am

Or it's simply just another promotional item... like the first teaser trailer where the PC is travelling with dogmeat, but we know that getting dogmeat isn't mandatory.

Your own video showed that it could not be done correctly even with modders specifically focusing on making driveable vehicles. Beth forgoed rideable ground vehicles with the train in BS and the carriages in Skyrim. THAT is at least a bit of proof that Beth has tried and it didn't work the way they wanted. THEY COULDN'T EVEN MAKE A TRAIN RUN. http://oyster.ignimgs.com/wordpress/stg.ign.com/2015/07/fo.pnglol Horses use the same mechanics as a player character running and have zero similarities to a wheeled controllable vehicle. You have no basis to say that they could if they wanted to, while evidence shows they haven't been able to do it

They sort of exclusively use Dogmeat in all promo's cause he's not a spoiler companion.

I really doubt they will restrict which companion if any in any DLC .. for one simple reason.. "Lover's Embrace" temp perk.

Bethesda can add Vehicle, but making it being integrated into the world, even new one, is pretty challenging work.

It's not impossible, just not the way FO4 is going.

Game like Borderlands & Rage were made with vehicles in mind.. FO4 is made more for walking & sightseeing.

There is no real thing to stop bethesda to add vehicle in far harbor.. but they probably will use the effort on something else they r more familiar with

That headtrain shows that they can do it.

It just needs follow the same concept. What's exactly the difference?

HAHAHAHA WHATTTTT????

The NPC train didn't move, you didn't control it, and they had to equip a helmet on your character to simulate the train moving. Holy crap

It did - which is odd as he's totally missable if you bypass Red Rocket, and I hear he can be killed prior to joining you. I never tried myself but at least a couple of videos on Youtube show people killing him, so I'd guess making him mandatory would really annoy people who did that already.

The only thing really stopping them is the physics of the game engine making it look crappy. And they don't want it to look crappy. Can they put a vehicle in? Sure. But the collision system make it really unbelievable and bad, just like modders have done

Ok, since you don't actually know how that worked lemme quote how it was done for you

"The NPC (with train hat) can be spawned wherever it needs to be. All you see is the train car on the tracks, but under the surface is a person with a train on her head. There’s another trick when you actually board the train, and it’s almost as weird. Again, there aren’t physics for making a train car move in the Gamebryo engine, so you’re not actually on the train. Instead, the player is equipped with a piece of head armor that covers the field of view and looks like the inside of a train. Then a camera animation is played that makes it look like you’re on a moving train, but you really just have a helmet on."

You were never moving. It was a trick to get around the issues the engine has with ground vehicle physics. You're welcome

The conditions of that perk are too easy to satisfy. Sleeping near a romantic partner? If it were supposed to just mean "every time you sleep" I guess that's what the condition would be. It's all too easy to keep that romantic partner close without even thinking about it or making any effort.

A situation where you can't just tag that person along would be an interesting wrinkle, after all the perk never makes any promises that a romantic partner can even possibly stay with you anywhere and everywhere - so that aspect of the perk would suddenly come to mean something more than "set and forget".

Well, You can sorta take a romantic companion everywhere now, cept to the Institute Interior. Plus for Far Harbor being a huge land mass somewhere off map where I presume we will be force to "travel via load-in" (you know where they use that trick to load in new zones making it look like you're traveling on a boat or aircraft), you would almost have to take your romantic companion with you cause zoning to a settlement, sleeping getting the perk and QT aften means you get like 5 mins or less of perk time.

They could just get lazy and let the companions repeat generic responses with no new voice overlays.

Yeah, they improved vehicle support by Skyrim, then had to cut out the cart rides other than the one in the intro as the carts would flip out at the slightest provocation. I fear we'll all end up dumped into the sea or tossed into the stratosphere by a lurching spinning boat. Good times...

You did not understand the quote you are posting, explain to me where in that quote it says that it is not moving?

Yes, that means it's a character moving with the skin of a train in the head.

Same concept of the Bike mod for Skyrim.

Holy crap. Obviously argueing with you is fruitless. Sorry you can't come up with any discernable evidence that Bethesda is working on or even has the capability to create driveable wheeled land vehicles that don't look like garbage. And no, you weren't moving in the NPC helmet making it look like the train was moving. Clearly you have an issue reading and comprehending that quote.

As people have been able to look through the game's data with the GECK for nearly a decade, it's pretty much beyond established. Why else would hats that resemble trains even exist in the game otherwise? It's just a clever magic act, smoke and mirrors, that looks more convincing when you don't know the secret.

Hopefully we will be able to bring any/all companions of our choosing rather than just Dogmeat. As has previously been stated, the mission that takes us to Far Harbor is related to Nick Valentine's Detective Agency so not being able to bring him would be stupid.

Logistically bringing companions shouldn't be an issue. Bioware have been able to include all companions and advisors in the Dragon Age Inquisition DLC, and they require LOTS of dialogue.

Yes you were moving, you the character were moving. But it was not the train.

It's exactly the same concept of the bike. It's not a bike, it's a horse with the skin of a bike. But gameplaywise it serves it's purpose.

As another poster already mentioned, it's been known for quite some time how they did this. The article I quoted mentioned it. I highlighted it. You refusing to accept that is your problem. A helmet is equiped when you enter the train making it look like you're on and a camera animation makes it look like you're moving. This would not work as a player drivable vehicle in Fallout 4. More likely to reskin horses and make the vehicles look like crap again than to try and wear a mask inside a vehicle and simulate you moving. If they did that, it'd have to be used as a fast travel device just like the train in broken steele.

It's been known how it works for quite some time, and the way it works shows that they don't even need to mess much with the game engine to implement something that simple.

They don't actually even need the horses at all, it can be even much simpler, transform the player into the vehicle itself. Just like they do with Power Armors.
