Dogmeat to Far Harbor.. Mandatory?

Post » Fri Mar 18, 2016 10:10 am

Since going to Far Harbor is related to some kind of detective work...

I am being more convinced that the picture of Dogmeat on the ship is more about that there will be a quest required to use dogmeat...

rather than us being able to take a companion to Far Harbor..

It could be somewhat new approach to explore and find someone on the new island with a dog

compare to some talking NPC telling us what to do as soon as we get off the ship.

Maybe too early to think about Far Harbor coming in May 2016. :P

I guess possible but I'd doubt it. I think they just wanted to add him in their because it looks cool. As it is a Valentine quest I'd be pretty surprised if we couldn't take him. I guess they could use some excuse for why he can't go but that's kinda lame limiting us to one companion (that not everyone likes)

I am hoping we can take any companion we like, as not being able to was something that always annoyed me about the DLC in 3 & NV.

Being able to take a companion would definitely be great thing.

I just thought Dogmeat probably will be used again in same fashion he was used in MQ because he did such a good job with such few clues available. haha

Imagine if each companion you take to the island gives you benefit to solve quests in a different way. If you take dogmeat you can track enemies, or track important loot to solve quests without fighting. If you take Piper she'll become inquisitive with NPCs and unlock hidden information and even secret quests. If you take Cait you can sell her as sixslave in exchange of some jet that you will later use to kill an non hostile enemy NPC of overdose.

But I pretty much prefer if they ditch all these ideas about companions if instead they add a new gameplay mechanic, like finally being able to drive vehicles, it's the biggest landmass after all, it makes sense if they decide to do it.

The land vehicles could be challenging, but since new place is Island I think a ship/boat could definitely be added to move from a port to port. It`s easy to program and add.

Do you mean a ship that you use to fast travel? if that's the case then I don't think there's anything fun in that.

Dogmeat has been a staple of the franchise for a while. It's probably just advertising.

Dogmeat is in the advertising for the base game, you don't have to have him as a companion...

This I'm sure. The part in the MQ where you had to use him felt really forced and lame. Surely they wouldn't do that again.

Haha, I was pretty happy with that MQ part because Dogmeat was already big part of Team SS. lol

...but I do understand some players rather prefer being true loner even without dog.

It should be optional to take him or not by all mean, but I just thought this Far Harbor case might be able to use dogmeat`s sniffing ability once again.

Well I havent put that much to into it, but you think a ship like that can be easier to program than a land vehicle? I am not sure. I am ok with both if the map is designed to allow it.

I think it's the sniffer that made it lame for me. Why all the sudden I need a sniffer when a quest marker has been good enough up until now. Now all the sudden I must follow a dog? They could have just put quest markers at each location dog takes you to. Now they all the sudden want to make going somewhere seem immersive? Too late bro.

Land vehicles are definitely hard to integrate. There is just too much to consider.. such as damage mechanic, flipping mechanic.. terrain design to accommodate vehicle and whatnot.

It can definitely happen in next FO, but FO4 doesn`t seem to have land vehicle integration considered.

The ship and Vertibird, on the other hand, really easy to integrate.... because they just move through flat surface with no obstacle mostly. lol

It would be absolutely lame if that dog was forced upon me. And I don't see him being involved in some artwork for the DLC being enough to suggest he plays some sort of prominent role.

Wish people would just drop this lol if it wasn't happening in the base game why would it happen in a DLC? Largest landmass of a DLC they said. It will not be bigger than the base map and that's already too small for land vehicles. The engine also handles it like lumpy poop and that hasn't changed

It's possible, but I kind of doubt it. Dogmeat has been used in a lot of the promotional material in the game. He's the most iconic of the companions, and it's likely that he's only included in the illustration for the same purposes. The description mentions a new case through Nick Valentine's office, so if any of the companions are likely to be an essential part of the quest line it'll probably be him. His other case file quests don't require you to take him along though, so I doubt this one will either.

Biggest Landmass for an add-on. It's not the biggest land mass.
