Dogmeat - Where did he come from?

Post » Sat Feb 27, 2016 12:58 am

Its really no different than settlers you see .. they are not all ghouls and did not all come from vaults.

why not a dog? there are other dogs as well that are not mutated

i think he means that super mutant hounds are made by FEV, not 'natural' mutation.

There was plenty of living trees in the first games. Bethesda just keeps making it look like the bombs just dropped.

You're talking about the skin, I'm not. Look at the mongrel's face. Mange doesn't do that to a dog's face.

It is a mutated dog. Again, you are incorrect.

I have seen some raider dogs that were mongrels actually.

There is a difference between things that were mutated by nuclear fallout and things that were mutated by the FEV virus.

Haha, I just found the term 'truly mutated' weird.

It should be either mutated yes or mutated no.

Anyway FO4 mongrels are not suffering any known disease.

They are just mutated to lose most of body hair.

I guess you haven't done the quest to find the vault girls cat...it's not unlikely people bred pets in vaults. Others have pointed out a variety of ways there could be normal animals, there's normal dogs and cats everywhere.

I like to think of Dogmeat as an Institute experiment as he's more intelligent and trained then your average dog.

I have done all the side quests, actually. but one cat in a vault is hardly breeding them.

I wouldn't say he is that much more intelligent, he can attack, fetch, stay, return home(okay thats pretty smart).

You can also tell him to find you anything useful and sniff out other specific stuff (forget the options atm).

You can train a dog to recognise certain objects and look for them.

Your personal headcanon aside (and that's all it is), there is no evidence of dogmeat being an Institute dog or that the cat was bred in the Vault. Not all of the animals got mutated, that's it.

As far as the cat goes, considering that the particular Vault in question allows traders and in rare cases new residents in, it's far more likely that the cat is from the wasteland.

ha of course it's headcanon and I agree with you about the animals can be from the wasteland as mentioned before. I'm pretty sure the guy who sells junkyard dogs didn't get them from vaults and they're normal rottweilers.

ha he's only shown up once for me at Red Rocket...I was all excited about getting a new dog until I discovered you can't bring him with you

He does a pretty decent job as a guard dog though, saw him eat a mutants face that dared attack my home :)

Speaking of animals, I wish we could have horses...throw a saddle and saddlebags, maybe a bedroll and a rifle holster on that thing, we'd be golden lol.

Back on Dogmeat, I think just not all dogs were mutated. I personally think he'd be a mutt instead of a purebred German Shepherd, but he's cool, I like him. I do wish we could put dog panniers on him though. And have a bicycle to put panniers on too, haha.

maybe not a horse, but in the automatron dlc coming out soon, wouldn't it be amazing if one of the robots you could make would be part vehicle?

now im just imagining an assault-o-tron that transforms into a motorbike.
