I'm doing a poll for my research paper

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 7:22 pm

I'm allowed to pick whatever subject I want, and I chose the glitches and bugs of skyrim affecting gamers. My teacher likes skyrim too lol so I should get a good grade if I pull this off well. However, my hypothesis is wrong so far! lol

I assume your hypothesis is that everyone is being affected? Because in fact like 80% (estimate) are having no issues with Skyrim whatsoever. It just turns out that when people have issues, they often go to the companies forums to complain. Ergo most people on the forums are experiencing issues, because all the people who aren't are busy playing Skyrim.

I said no. I'm about to eat dinner, and therefor was not playing Skyrim. :P

After reading comments on the forum, I did not go back onto steam--didn't get the 1.2 patch. Did get the 1.3 and it cleared up many of the problems I had had. 3rd patch worked like a charm...still holding Hanging Gardens in inventory, though.

The only thing that affected me was how all resistances became nullified, but that was hardly a big deal for me because it simply added more of a challenge for me. When it comes to glitches, I am unaffected as well because I've yet to encounter a single glitch (quest-breaking glitches included).

I'm on PC and I hate having to undo the forced updates. :flame:

I haven't let Steam go online since I registered the game. I'm just not going to buy any games until ... oh, the end of next year, I guess ... Hahah.

I hate Steam.

I don't think his thesis is something like 'Skyrim svcks because bugs', it's more of gathering data to support his hypothesis - like whether patches should be sent out asap or be given thorough QA testing. No matter what, you're going to get a VERY biased sample by asking us, since the internet tends to be very vocal about its problems, probably moreso on company websites where we expect someone to listen. And as fans of the game, we do weird things and play for hundreds of hours, and are more likely to run into bugs. Not to mention free-response bias.

You do know this forum is populated by people who like to do one of two things... complain about the game, or complain about people complaining about the game. You're not getting an unbaised result in any case.

Silverock, Shagsbeard, results are never unbiased, unless you get an opinion from thousands/tens of thousands/hundreds of thousands of people from across all socio-economic and cultural backgrounds ...

All OP has to say is that, keeping the above in mind, his results were X, Y, Z which might mean A, B, C, but that we obviously can't be sure because correlation does not equal causation.

Basically its a mock project. Like a what if. I'm supposed to set up this study to see if the results I get are inductive or deductive. Clearly, it is inductive. For the reason that so many didn't download patch 1.2, or could either be lying because they are bias in the fact they love skyrim so much they don't see the issues because they don't want to, OR they say they its breaking the game for them(in which case it truly is or not, can't be certain) because they loath it so much for whatever reason.

So, I would like to thank everyone for participating, even the person that said they would flunk me if I was in their class.

I had those backwards flying dragons.
At first it looked funny.
After 10 seconds it became a nuisance.
After meeting 5 of them who constantly dropped my framerate and one which caused me to crash it was not funny anymore.
Became quite frustrating.
Felt like throwing the computer through the wall.

Wish I did a class on TES when I was in school.

I made a mod for Oblivion for my final year project in uni. Got a really good mark and a job in the industry :celebration:

Yes, to some extent. Both resistances and dragons(about 40% of the ones I have faced after the patch) seem to be bugged.

I was lucky. I read the forum first before I realised the patch was out so I didn't apply it.

This might be useful for your project but Skyrim is actually making head line news with its bugs right now. It was on the front page of the BBC NEWS website yesterday and is a top story in their technology section.
