I don't believe those who say its easy on survival

Post » Fri Jan 22, 2016 7:01 am

We are talking from Endgame Difficulty. If you playing Survival from the Beginning and wallk with Level 10 into a Deathclaw with Level 40 it shure is hard. 1 V.A.T.S. Shot with Explosive Minigungs kills a Supermutant Warlord and Mythical Deathclaw. You even Need no Power Armor you can evade a lot of shots and attacks when playing with tactic and not like Doom.

I die periodically on 'normal'.

I find that an enjoyable difficulty setting.

I'm a rather bad player, too old for quick reflexes (makes melee difficult) but I started on Survival and skipped my char at lvl 37 to start new, also on Survival but with a very restrictive loot mod. Few loot (ammo, stimpacs) and so makes it harder than the damage modifiers. In my opinion the biggest disadvantage of Survival or Very Hard is the 0,5 damage multiplier for the player. It's just tedious. The healing mechanic and the greater enemy damage on the other hand is great, makes you acting more carefully. Now I installed a 1x damage multiplier for the player. You don't have to prove to be a badass guy in a SPG, you just have to be honest to yourself.

I also die a lot on Survival, mostly by big legendaries who need too many bullets to die. A supermutant with a .38 submachinegun kann kill me in about a second, there is not much to do instead of prudent use on cover. Bad if caught in the open, run, run, run. Do the same against the deathclaw in Concord. I used mostly the laser musket because the minigun is crap, molotov cocktails and movement. If the beast disappears, carefully sneak around and lure it out to shoot at it again while taking cover in a building. The beast is dumb as hell.

What I'm still not able to do is melee against bigger enemies on Survival.

I bumped up to survival to get more legendary drops. I had to change my playstyle a little, embrace chems and invest in the medic perk some, but I'm enjoying the game a lot more.

Just started a melee survival playthrough, skipped Concord, went south and cut across to Goodnieghbor and have had no issues. Cleared the warehouses with a combat knife with ease and just cleared the combat zone without even taking a hit at level 9. So far pretty dang easy. Everything gets one shot out of stealth still. The biggest difference I'm finding is the damage done to yourself. Died a few times leaving sanctuary but since level 4 I've not died.

In my opinion, those who claim it is so " easy " and those who claim to have completed the game with multiple characters etc.etc. play in God Mode where they can't be killed and have all guns and weapons available from the minute they start.

THEY CHEAT

But American kids aren't brought up to consider cheating wrong.

As long as they < CAN > do it ... fine.

They have no game ethics.

They will make good Republicans one of these days.

Cheating at video games is so dominant these days that the producers build cheating right into the game.

There is no need to build cheat commands into the console === but they DO.

Because if they didn't all the little pansy boys would not buy their game.

If they can't cheat they won't play.

Remember, the game has only been out, what? a month / month and a half?

Two months tops.

And all these Mom's basemant cowboys somehow go to school ( maybe some even have a job at McDonalds ) and manage to take multiple characters completely through a very difficult game all while ordinary players -- who don't cheat -- are struggling towards level 30 with ONE character. There are probably some REALLY good players who have legitimately made level 50 or so but I doubt they have gone much further than that.

They somehow think it makes them look like bodacious players to make such claims ... not realizing that if they really HAVE done that ... it proves they are cheaters. Not enough hours in enough days to do what they claim to have done without cheating BIG TIME.

PS I don't consider < most > mods cheating because they just fix things the developers skimped on ... like thunderstorm sounds --- doesn't affect actual game play.

As for the claims of completion with multiple players --- I just shrug and think " and there's another one ".

i think doubling the damage on weapons fixes 99% of gameplay problems , it would remove the bullet sponge enemies and provide significant incentive in investing in endurance

Lol. What? I play on PS4 so no mods or console commands for me. I also didn't get the game for a few weeks till after it came out because I was still playing Divinity. I'm already into my second character. Retired the first at level 62. My friends who got the game the day it came out are on their third and fourth characters. I have no idea what you're talking about.

Yeah, you got me. I'm lying. I mean there's no way I could pro- oh, wait. My PSNID is capeo75. You can look for yourself. Your idea of how long it takes to play through this game are so far from reality its a mind boggling.

I play on normal. I'll probably start on a higher difficulty (probably just hard)with my 3rd character who will be stealth based.

While I am sure there are much more skilled gamers out there, I too had a hard time believing all the bravado about survival mode up to about level 15.

There's just certain bullet sponge enemies that soak up loads of damage. Also, poison dealing enemies like rad scorpions/sting wings etc I just don't see how that is "easy" to deal with. You have to be completely stacked on Chems and drop loads of explosives to kill them. There's just no way around that...

Oblivion was the first game of this style played and had very similar difficulty slider. Even since I first experimented with difficulty in that game up until fallout 4 I see higher difficulty as little more than a tax on ammo/health regen. I can see how I would make it more challenging but shooting 4 missles at a single human and he doesn't die, or firing a mini-Nuke and applying a saved critical and it still doesn't kill a raider-mini boss... Well just seems lame to me

If the Enemies are too strong - You are too weak. Also a lot People don't use good Weapon Affixes when you Need 4 Rocket Missles for a single human. If you have Weapon Problems - Use Sneak, Concentrated Fire + Critical Hit.

It's only hard on survival early game. Early game for harder missions I have to use power armor because there are no good guns and it takes forever to kill a supermutant with a pipe rifle. As soon as you get a decent legendary drop though and have gun nut 3 or 4 you gun is ridiculously powerful. Hell you don't even need a drop, just buy Spray and Pray from the merchant Cricket who's either in the area just before going inside Diamond city, or at random locations or at bunker hill. It's fully automatic with 15 explosive AOE damage, so even if you miss if you aim for the legs you cripple(ghouls and dogs), kills everything so fast and only downside is you can't shoot anything close to yourself, and expensive to maintain because it uses up bullets fast.

I play on PC though, my bro who's playing on console says it's much harder. It's just too damn easy to aim with a mouse, I don't even use VATS unless sniping.

With a good fun I can kill a deathclaw or legendary supermutant/ Synth in about 3 secs when spray and pray is fully upgraded with perks, and it's not just that gun. I've had mini gun with 25 bleed damage per shot, and 2 shot assult rifle that did 190 damage per shot. Just ridiculously powerful. I even started a thread complaining how the guns are too powerful when upgraded.

So survival is only survival up to like lv 15, once you get that first good gun it gets too easy.

I agree. I said the same thing yesterday and was immediately told to stick it. Only one person was willing to prove it. Still haven't seen any.

For me, I've never had fhe reflexes and mental endurance for hard settings on games because of health issues. Easy settings is enough for me.

Just for clarity those 4 rockets were against a legendary raider. The mini nuke + critical was against raider mini boss.

You can pick up a Fusion Cell in the cellar at Sanctuary Hills.

Grab Frag Grenades from Mailbox on way to Concord from SH.

Grab a Fat Man, Power Armor, and ammo from a JunkYard just Northeast of SH.

Just across the River of SH is a .44 revolver which is a very powerful handgun.

Might be level 3 by now, so what do you spend your Perk Points on?

I would say Heavy Gunner and Pistols...

This should be enough.

The Key here is that you can get all of that without much fuss and here's the thing ultimately you have a choice of when you walk into Concord and also Concord spawns come "Nerfed".

I bumped up the difficulty level in my current game from Hard to Survivor when I was about level 42 or so (currently level 55). At the moment I am simply exploring a bit, but mostly scavenging because I kinda decided abandon the main quest and work on my 5 settlements which requires a lot of resources to fortify (meaning a perimeter wall).

I stumbled upon my very 1st deathclaw last night while playing on Survivor mode when I fast traveled to Starlight Diner to drop off some crap to protect my two industrial water purifiers there (I do not have Local Leader yet). No settlers are there just the purifiers for now; I visit once in a while to collect and sell the water. It turned out to be a legendary deathclaw when I brought up VATS. Even though I carry pretty light weapons and light combat armor I decided to take it on.

I climbed up to the roof of the diner and told Piper to stay where she was. I then placed two heavy machine gun turrets on the roof to prep for the attack. Unfortunately, the turrets started to fire so the surprise opportunity to attack with my .308 recon sniper rifle (92 damage) for 2.5x damage was blown... I managed 3 or 4 hits before the deathclaw closed the distance. I then switched to my .38 auto pipe rifle (28 damage)... I said I have pretty light weapons... and shot at it whenever I had an opportunity. It took about 90 seconds to kill the deathclaw since from time to time it would move out of the line of fire behind the diner itself.

Yeah, it was a cheap kill... and my reward was a Freezing Tire Iron. Ummm.... thanks.... I reloaded and fast traveled a few times, but a legendary enemy never spawned.

Started a new game and didn't realize it leaves it on very hard. Got around sanctuary with codsworth easy enough. Had trouble with the two stingwings near red rocket and then blam got killed by the first raider I run into.

okay, so, survival. the deathclaw is doable if you just make sure every bullet hits, for me it took a bit of kiting, running into houses, finding the deathclaw and running back, and just shooting it whenever it was in plain view. its not hard, its just really punishing if you mess it up, and thats basically what survival is.

I'm not saying survival is easy, I've died randomly several times, random raiders with missile launchers and deathclaws hiding behind trees sometimes get the drop on me, but I've never really gotten to a point where I went "this can't be done."

I might have that issue if I go for a pure melee playthrough, but I have yet to go back to an older save because I can't do something (with the exception of some wonky settlement buildings I couldnt redo) and I think that is kinda what I wanted from survival. something that was hard to the point where I could screw up horribly and end up having to start over because of poor choices, but I kinda just made some lucky guesses, I still only have 2 endurance at 59, I never use power armor, and basically just use outfits I think look cool.

so far the only issue I've had on survival is ammo, I frequently have to switch between guns because I don't have enough ammo to keep up with the damage scaling, other than that, it feels very doable no matter how you build your character. (except for melee builds which I havent tried yet.)

that said though, I don't think playing on survival makes my experience better in any way compared to someone who plays on normal and finds it challenging and fun, people enjoy different things, and I get that not everyone wants to sort of "game" the game to see how well they can do within the system that bethesda has set up.

to me its kinda like music, I get that jazz has a whole different level of complexity to it that I don't understand, and that I dont want to understand, I just wanna listen to Iggy Azalea rap about butts and stuff. doesn't mean I have any less fun listening to music.

I moved to 'Very Hard' at lvl 35, then to 'Survival' at lvl 49 - currently lvl 71. Never use Power Armor, but do have Ballistic Weave clothes & hat plus maxed body armor. I only die when I get absolutely careless.

Oh well. Play some Stalker sometime.

This is a Fallout game and although challenging on Survival, for the first few levels, is really not too tough, for a shooter player. Now it's the first halfway decent shooter they have produced and will be hard for an RPG player , to play as a shooter. That's why they built a cheat into the game, it's called VATS.

Use it.

woha now, VATS is more of a fun tool than a cheat, its more fun to see a nice clip of me killing a room full of radroaches rather than having to get frustrated trying to hit the little buggers :P

For me it's cheating. I dominate the game on Survival as it is. My skills are returning, nearly 2 years of ESO had seriously nerfed them.

Hell, maybe I'll fire up one of my Stalker games, I'm almost good enough.

Oh yeah. A bayonet is just what you need for Radroaches, don't waste ammo. ;)
