So is this like the lady at the office who sends herself flowers so people think she has someone interested in her?

Yes, except it is a man who is saying he is off the market to women he actually knows. But I guess he could stage a bad break up and act like he needs someone to mend his broken heart. I hear that women eat that up.

Yeah they do, for about three weeks (or days, hours, minutes, depending on the particular woman and how exaggeratingly sad and self-pitied you get) and then they figure out they're probably just a rebound.

I can't tell if you're being joking or not...

Could this be used to mess with people? I would never do that but I can just see stories where people were baited by this and it was actually some [censored]s that were just bullying.

But hey, that is an upgrade from a virtual girl right? Everything goes as planned ;)

Well at least it's better than what I first thought it was going to be about. I thought it was going to be about some guy who saw a cloud shaped like a woman decided to make it his girlfriend.

That would almost be as bad as the guy who married a pillow....almost.

The only thing I can think of that is more depressing than a fake girlfriend is a fake boyfriend.

If there is any manner of God, and he loves us, this website isn't offering pseudo-boyfriends for the Twilight fans.

Well, that was interesting.
Imagine being dumped by a nonexsistent significant other, what a confidence booster.

I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

All seriousness aside, I can see why this may be somewhat useful in both "lying to people to keep myself out of trouble" and "picking up chicks" ways.

For the former, it's quite obvious. Simple example is: You are gay, don't want your family to know, so you make your facebook all pimped out with fake girlfriends. you don't have to ever get to the "meet my parents" stage of the relationship; just create a new one "before it gets serious".

For the latter, it's social proof. You're essentially saying "look at me, I have a girlfriend" and hoping that some real girl out there will think "well, if he has a girlfriend, he must be worth dating". It's a long shot, but it is a real thing.

I'm sure there are other uses too, but this is just off the top of my head.

This reminds me of an IGN article I saw a year back, maybe more. About a service where you paid girls to play games with you online. Quite funny actually, how these people who come up with this stuff think gamers are all single (by single I do mean pathetic losers incapable of socially interacting with girls and being in relationships with them).

That's just the escort industry moving into the internet age . And why wouldn't they do it? Its a non-sixual service which is extremely easy to keep that way (how, exactly, do you have your evil way over the internet?), they have a wider pool of potential employees (if the client is only going to, at most, hear your voice, physical requirements are pretty low), and logistically simple.

Hmm... Time for an experiment, perhaps?

Phase 1: Acquire Cloud gf.

Phase 2: Pretend it's all hunky-dory.

Phase 3: It's not! Abort! Purge! FLEEE!!!

Phase 4: Status Update: "I should've known better than to try being straight."

Thems females like the gay guys. :hubbahubba:

Who will seriously do this? I am starting to think this was intended for us lonely gamers who want to look "cool".

How is this going to make anyone look cool?
