Don Hostetler marker outside of map

Post » Sat Nov 27, 2010 3:06 pm

I'm trying to find him for the quest Aba Daba Honeymoon and the problem is the map marker goes outside of the map in the Pipboy, making it impossible to find him. He's also nowhere to be found either in his house or at the Crimson Caravan. Reloading to a much earlier save, he does appear normally in the house at night. I'm not sure if it's related to me talking to Mrs Hostetler before meeting him. Is there any way to explain this and make him reappear within the map again? Like, perhaps doing the Someone to watch over me quest to make him reappear? Someone please help for I really wanna finish this quest and not having to start all over again... until a patch that fixes this comes up : (

Have you already done the "Someone to watch over me" quest? People have said that he was hostile after finishing this quest in a certain fashion. So don't do that quest before finishing "Aba Daba Honeymoon".
I believe that Don Hostetler is one of the NPCs who move across the map a lot - he might have been killed by some random fiend-attack. Have you tried different times of the day - during daytime he's working at the Crimson Caravan... then walking to his house.

Try using the console command "player.moveto" to go to him or the "placeatme" command to move him to you.

The console fixes little things that can go wrong like this. I hope you're playing on a PC so you can easily fix this.

If not and he's dead, you're out of luck. If not and he's alive, all you can do is wait and hope he comes back. Or go back to a save.

Ah - i keep forgetting the console...
isn't there even a command for resurrecting a dead character - so if he was dead and you'd find his body (which should be somewhere along the path he takes) then you could resurrect him
*feels very clever*

Unfortunately I play on the xbox... I have not finished but only started the Someone to Watch Over Me quest. What's weird is that his marker is way outside of the New Vegas map. Does that imply it's only a temporary glitch or that he's dead? If someone can confirm the meaning of the displaced marker I can at least rest my heart on this issue... :/

i'm sorry, i never had a displaced marker like you discribe it ... have you tried waiting for Hosteler one full day - like wait one hour look where the marker is, than wait again for an hour - i'd do that befor reloading the old game...

Depending on the time of day, he walks to and from work. You'll see him outside usually near the health clinic. I catch him all the time walking to or from work. He might be hung up on something outside.

That's a good idea ... hour by hour check to see if the marker moves. If no movement then he is stuck or dead.

But ... If a NCR is dead, does he have a marker?
