Don't Go Into Rivetcity

I can't wait for it to come out, but come on guys, we all know Bethesda by now, who's afraid of crippling bugs in Skyrim?

Afraid of crippling bugs? No.

Expect to see some bugs? Yes.

Come on, it's a gamesas game! It's tradition! :D

There are bugs present in like every piece of software ever.

I'm not in the least concerned about Skyrim's bugs, though, which I expect to either be minor (based on my experiences with previous TES games), or easily worked around (I play on PC).

Nicely said. And we don't realy care about bugs do we? I'm used to it, and very forgiving of our fav development team.

I've actually never had a game-crippling (showstopper) bug in a Bethesda game except for the odd crash that was probably more to do with my sub-par hardware at the time.

Worst thing I can remember was in FO:NV (not developed by Beth) that some prisoners at a Caeser camp were standing around and some Caeser guards were tied up, lol.

Other than that I remember Oblivion CTD'd after like 8 or 9 hours of play, but maybe that's just a built-in get-a-life feature.

Maybe I don't notice them because they get patched out so quickly? Never had any save-game glitches from Morrowind til now (Daggerfall is a different story!).

All games nowadays release with bugs, and unless they're an MMO, they get patched in mere days.

They'll be some - as with any game. Game crippling, though? We'll wait and see.

In my experience Bethesda's games have been *very* crash happy, I've changed hardware and operating systems many times and there has always been one constant, Bethesda games crash a lot, if you're lucky enough to have avoided it, well done, have a biscuit.

I'm sure I'll dump hundreds of hours into Skyrim, crashes or not, I do hope for the best though.

After putting hundreds of hours into both Oblivion and Morrrowind, with a fair amount of time being on unpatched software, the worst bugs I've ever encountered were crazy ragdolls in Oblivion and one bug where I couldn't complete the Imperial Legion's questline in Morrowind. For roughly 9 years of gaming, that's not bad at all.

FO: NV has left me a little wary, which is perhaps unfair as it's a different developer, but hey. I'm an offline console player, there are no patches for me, the game will forever be v1.0, so it's important that v1.0 is such, and not actually v0.8 or whatever NV was in practice at launch. Games of this size and scope will always have some bugs, I accept that, but there's a difference between weird, difficult-to-repeat, happens once-or-twice engine glitches and basic features not working as they should/glitches that occur persistently (like buggered up radio or crazy arms in NV.) I expect the former in Skyrim, that's fine, but I'll be deeply disappointed to find the latter.

I just hope Beth've left plenty of time for Q&A, in short. And they don't just work on an assumption that "we can patch it later". If 11/11/11 is drawing near and the game's still not ready, delay. Don't release it 'till it's ready.

With the exception of Fallout NV, I haven't had any problems at all (and I'm on xbox.) Yes Morrowind was glitchy, but nothing so bad that it ruined my game. Oblivion and Fallout 3 ran just fine for me. Even NV was lacking anything that ruined my game, just had a few annoying problems with my guns raising up in the air. Still does it after multiple patches too.

However, I believe NV was rushed to make it's release date right? I think Skyrim will have plenty of time to be polished out, just like Oblivion and Fallout 3.

I'm not going to set myself up for disappointment by thinking it will be bug-free. These open world games that I love are very complicated and I know there will be some things that aren't going to work exactly as planned. The AI can have a mind of its own. Even when they do interviews they talk about things they were surprised about. What bothers me the most are logic problems in the quests...those are not ok and show the level of professionalism in the company. With a game like this, the best people should be on it and the best people should be playing it and testing it. I know when millions get it that's a lot more bug-testing and more things can show up about the engine...but please get the logic in the quests right so following a quest storyline doesn't end up at a brick wall.

Considering the size and scope of this game I am sure it will have some bugs. If the game was totally bug free we would never get to play it because it would take forever to test every possible scenario. I have no issue with some here and there. Fallout 3 was fine IMO but I really wish they would have patched some game stopping bugs. The issue I had was with Scribe Rothchild not talking to me when he needed to. This was part of the main quest and I had to go online and basically cheat to find a way to continue the game. In TES IV I wish they would have patched the vampire glitch......other than that I had no other major bugs with that game.

As long as the critical bugs are patched within a timely maner I have no issues.

With the sheer size of the game I will expect there to be many bugs some big but mainly minor things that can only be found by thousands of public players playing through the game.
What would be extremely disappointing is if the community discovered bugs were not patched, silly things on oblivion were never patched like npcs having odd routines ( running between cities because scripted to go to eat lunch in the wrong city ) and of course the vampire glitch

A patch after a month sorting out all the community found bugs would be sorely appreciated

That game was also developed by a totally different team with a known history of buggy games and not much experience with the game engine. That was the reason that game was a bugfest. Fallout 3 was much more stable IMO and I think Oblivion was even more stable than that........that is from my experience though.

Not an attack I promise! I love Bethesda games but I'm guessing you never played fallout then? It had numerous bugs which would completely freeze the... oh wait! I'm a platformer... That may be why you don't know what I'm talking about. Yeah were some crucial bugs in Fallout on the 360. Some in Oblivion too but not as game-stopping as in Fallout... Dang Rivet City.

This is why you should play on a Computer

I never encountered any bugs in Rivet City. If you were 'platforming' and jumping around geometry like a madman then that's on you, not the developer. It's not a bug if you have to WORK to encounter it

the Only A-bomb i suffered in oblivion was when i tried to sit down on a chair it would zoom out on my char standing there for a few mins before commencing with the animation... but then it was on the Ps3's ported version there was also a glitch where i couldn't cure being a vampire... im just grateful that skyrim wont be ported this time around due to the Ps3 being here for its release.

of topic: im more of a PC gamer but i use the Platform version for oblivion and more likely skyrim... i don't feel like upgrading my PC again...
