I was leaning toward backing/joining the StormCloaks, since I rather get my hackles up when faced with Roman... err, I mean Imperial legions...

But now I'm hanging around Windhelm, and I really dislike these folks... I'm not a grey elf (actually, I'm rather feline), but the way these folks treat the other races just brings up my gorge.... I may just hawk up my lunch in the street in front of some of these sullen dregs...

Actually, I was initially looking to join the Forsworn, after bailing their king out of prison, but they attack me on sight!! I guess that's out...

there is a quest option during the main quest that tries to go for a peace treaty. I didn't choose it.

Factions in this game could have been done much better...much...

You don't have to join if you don't feel that a faction fits you.

hmmm... okay, that's an option I can consider - though the system seems as if it assumes that you'll have an alignment at some point. I may need to take this option.
