I don't mind the level-scaling enemies

I was incredibly proud.

My Warrior/Mage entered a cave that was clearly far above his measly 9th level. But through a 3 hour long (real life) battle using potions, summons, staves, swords, spells and, most of all, tactics, he fought his way to the bloody end..... he crouched in front of the huge chest of the 'boss' who could almost kill him in a blow if toe-to-toe and opened it with anticipation to find....

An iron cuirass
A flawless garnet
101 gold

Says it all.

Took away all desire to burn through huge amounts of resources ..... no reward for initiative, going off the beaten path, using up valuable in-game resources, risking insta-death over and over from powerful foes.....

I don't know if it will be possible to mod out level-scaled loot, but I can't believe Bethesda has strayed so far from its roots (they are starting to resemble the Dungeon Siege dude, forget name, who talks about player experience, challenge and 'fun' always staying in the flow and other utter garbage that makes a game into a sitcom)

Otherwise I love Skyrim in many ways.

I don't see the issue, going through at level 9 and finding plate armor would be cheap as all hell.

Plus, I'm level 31 and I still find Iron armor in caves. Rarely I'll find something good, but usually it's no different than what you found.

It's somewhat random, though.

Long before I could see any glass or elven gear being used (and it's still rare), I pulled an Ebony axe out a a chest. And these 50% resist fire Elven boots I'm wearing - yeah, they came from a chest, too. Both of these things found in the low teens-high 20s. (Of course, the axe is sitting in a weapon mount back in my house - I'm more into swords with this character.)

Seriously, loot is the biggest disappointment in the whole game.

After going through one of the longest quests in the game, besting hundreds of powerful druegr, defeating 3 boss fights, and then again fighting all three of those bosses one after the other with maybe 5 seconds between the fights I get what is supposed to be a stupid powerful artifact. According to the lore so powerful that all of the most powerful forces in Skyrim had to ally with each other to bring down the wielder of the artifact and did everything in their power to erase knowledge of its existence from history to protect the world from it.

What does it do?

Yea I was a little disappointed at this end result too. It built it up a LOT, like god-like status to forge them all together for the first time in centuries. Entire civilizations bound together to separate the wearers and bury them eternally..I still wear this item, but... it was very anticlimactic...

Edit: OH! and that one quest from the College where you had to find some books for the library guy to translate - books written by one of the most powerful mages ever to exist, the same one who built the labyrinthian... My reward?

Spoiler
freaking 3 scrolls of healing
- are you kidding me?? I was way more upset over this one than the previously mentioned one..

The only artifact I'm not disappointed with so far is the Mace of Molag Bal, and it still didn't excite me, I just wasn't disappointed with. It has fair stats compared to the equipment I use, and the enhantments are useful enough that I pull it out when I need them.
