Don't be swept away by negative reviews.

Post » Mon Dec 20, 2010 12:41 am

Hey guys,

Bottomline, reviews are nearly as bad as journalists, they supposedly give their "expert advise" from very little experience.
Don't be scared away by the negative reviews, I know a lot of games that didn't score high on the major reviewing sights that are an absolute blast!
I haven't got the game yet, gotta wait 5 days actually (stupid Australia) but I'm just warning you to STEER CLEAR OF THE REVIEWS.
Idiots that have played 30-40 minutes write up a full review, and the majority then take their opinion.
Hope I've saved a few,

cheers guys,

Jacob.

In here? I dont really think it matters either way.

Most people on these forums are already all die hard fans including myself.

We cant and wont be turned!

I suppose, even if there are minor problems, nothing a little patch can't fix :D

Don't mistake me as somekind of troll that decided to flame brink and all but like I wrote before...Not all complaints about the game are unjustified.

I can understand that, no game is perfect. But, hopefully it can be fixed with a patch as I stated above.

Not flaming at all.
I think they raise valid points, just in an excessively harsh way.
Brink is a niche game (people who love customisation and only team based online multiplayer) and a reviewer isn't a niche person.
I think every one should breathe and not get defensive if other people don't love it.
Who cares what other people think.
Take the points but make the judgement yourself.

dribblers doing console reviews on a game which is almost guaranteed to have a patch or two coming soon enough after launch (all FPSs do)

PC version reviews are what counts

certainly that is true. No game will ever be perfect.

But brink seem to lack a map design that should offer more different routes to take and more choke points. Map design is key in my opinion and I don't see this fixed with a simple patch. As far as I know lobby's aren't present either. Level progression is way to fast and limited. It also seems that a pebble is more capable of teamwork then the A.I.

The developers really need to put em up if they want to fix all that.

I dont by all these negative reviews. i had a feeling this would happen. Its a new fps and it will be compared to cod what ever happens. I find Machinima done the best review and did not sound biased at all.
Game review's gave Black ops a very high review which i dont currently agree with.

I was watching a guy on youtube recently purchased BRINK, While nik picking about the games gameplay and all. He was a medic and not once did i see him help out his team mates. My verdict....he does not know how to play the game. Playing as if he was playing COD.

Through experience i always say only the player can be he's own reviewer.

Im from UK and still getting this game on friday.

Couldn't agree more with the Op.

Here's my thoughts on the matter http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1187113-why-do-u-care-about-what-others-say-about-brink/

I've already preordered the game and I'm getting it in a few hours, I don't think anyone should follow the reviews out now, I think Gameinformer is going to get it right, they said they won't release a review until they've played a ton of the game and after the patch rolls in.

I haven't seen anything to put me off. All the points that I have been looking forward to are still there!

Best thing about a few bad reviews is that the COD boys won't be tempted to join us.

"Well now that i read the IGN review I am NOT getting this game".......

According to metacritic reviews [xbox 360] 13 good [most between 81 and 75
2 mixed [2 70's, 2 60's]
and 1 really bad 1UP 25!!!!!!

The reviews are mostly good. I do not think this is going to be the best game of all time. I think it is going to be pretty good and fun, once I can play it online. The game got a lot of 8's by reviews and some 9's. If you want to like this game you will, if you dont you probably will not. The problem is not so many negative reviews, but the fact the more popular sites like g4, IGN dont seem to be impressed and they do have much influence over the casual crowd. But this game seems pretty decent and should have a good core following.

OH, and by the way it has come to light that the Joystiq reviewer only played two hours of game, as shown by his X-box gamerscore.

The film svcker Punch has a rating of 22% on Rotten Tomatoes. That had already destroyed my faith in mainstream reviews.

I now only accept reviews from trusted sources like Moviebob, the ABC TV show Good Game and a couple of others. And IGN. :flamethrower:

goodgame makes me shudder. last time i watched that they couldn't decide if they were advlts or childrens entertainers.

kind of like the wiggles reviewing the saw series. just dont sit right with me. i used to use gamerevolution but they started getting too commercial. now i just read the technical support forums of released games. if a game sounds good and doesn't have horrendous game breaking bugs i'll usually try it.
