I don't understand Vendor limits

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 1:05 am

We have more than 1 store in real life even though walmart sells literally everything anyone could think of........ but the other stores still make lots of money...... what?

I totally missed the part in the history saying wal-mart existed in the medieval times. They didnt have the logtistics nor resources to amass quanities for the sole purpose of vendoring them to people.

BTW only reason I have the time to make such stupid complaints is because of all the loading screens between going to different towns for more of the same damn ingot... and the time waiting lol

And what about dragons or the magic in Tamriel suggest that a Walmart type supply system would exist? Please explain.

And if you don't like wait times, don't powerlevel smithing. It will ruin the fun of the game for you anyways, because you'll become overpowered and steamroll everything.

I know they re-stock items but how about gold? I'm fine with it though, sounds to me like a job for the mudcrab merchant!

Haha I was thinking what if one of the giant's is actually a merchant with unlimited gold... only thing is nobody wants to go near those guys to find out which one he is. It would be funny if there was one and he traveled between their camps. :P :hubbahubba:

Haha, yeah. But he would only speak with you if you bring him a gift, else he would kick your end to high rorthgar.

The current system strikes the best balance between the two kind of players, the ones who care about immersion and roleplaying and those that are more into the meta-gaming aspects of Skyrim. For those who care about immersion and such we have the current system and meta-gamers can wait 48 hours repeatedly to have the stock come back.

You can invest in stores to increase the cash they have to buy your loot. There are in-game ways to make the economy more to your liking.

Yeah and if you happen to try to sell him mammoth parts they all show up in town looking for you... maybe trash your house into splinters.

If you get the perk to invest in merchants, invest in the general goods trader in Riverwood. He gains 10,000 gold.

I know you don't understand. Many players don't understand basic concepts. They seem to be under the impression that because this is a video game you should be able to do whatever silly crap you want, or that since it's a fantasy world there's no point in trying to be realistic with anything.

The truth is that, while a fantasy environment, they're still trying to create a plausible world, albeit one with magic and dragons. Even a fantasy world is still bound by rules for how things work, and they're generally trying to imitate our real world. So it is with carrying limits (can't carry 3.7 tons of stuff at once) and vendor stock/gold limits. In the real world a store only has X-amount of merchandise and Y-amount of funding on hand, and it works this way in The Elder Scrolls as well. Being a video game doesn't mean you have to throw all realistic concepts to the wind.

I agree with this. The economy is fine for the most part, however in my opinion there's a glaring option gap: Trade/Consignment. While I don't want merchants to have unlimited gold or huge gold amounts, it makes no sense to me that if a merchant has a 5000 septims robe I want to buy, and I have 5000 septims worth of merchandise that I could sell to him, but neither of us has enough gold to buy/sell from each other, there should be a "trade" option where you can have a temporary "sell" buffer of goods to sell to the merchant to reach the amount of credit needed to buy the item from the merchant. It would be done as a simultaneous sale to each other, no one could be left in the negative. Something like this would make vastly more sense then the unrealistic mechanic of having to visit every town and merchant in Skyrim doing nickel and dime sales to clear a single loot run from your bag. If a feature like that can't be added in an update, that would be a mod I'd be looking for, not a "10,000 septim merchant".

You know there is a faction missing in Skryim I just realized. The "Where's My Baseball" faction. It's members beat their chest with a limp hand while trying to bite an ear.

This forum is full of people that want a slightly or intensely different game then from what they got. Why the hell did they buy it in the first place.

He doesn't want them to have more sell cash. He wants them to stock semi-infinite Iron Bars so he has to spend even less time powerleveling his Smithing with daggers.

----

edit:

OP - These aren't shops like in your typical MMO or JRPG - they don't have a set dozen consumable items (Heal Potion, Mana Potion, Phoenix Down, Remedy) in infinite quantity. They're an attempt at having a "real" shop that you might find in a village. There's no reason for them to have infinite supplies - there's many more items, there's plenty of loot lying around out in the world, and the purpose of shops isn't to let you buy whatever you want whenever you want.

I'm not a fan of the limits. It makes no sense for a bowyer to have only a handful of arrows and a couple of bows to sell... Nor does it make sense for a general vendor to have a grand total of 3 arrows and the rest all complete junk (I consider food items trash)...
