You have played through and finished Oblivion, and you still don't know what Oblivion or Cyrodiil is?

I know I didn't.

And wait until you try to wrap your head around the Dragon Breaks...

Dragon Breaks are nothing compared to CHIM. Or at least when asking for a straight answer on these forums

This guy is obviously yankin' all you people.

Hmm... It does kind of seem silly for him to think Tes happened on Earth, being there are elves and magic. Nonetheless, it's our duty to help people  I think. Most of your questions can probably be answered by the creation myth, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore%3a%44awn_Erais pretty short and if you have further questions ask us.

Most important thing to remember about Aedra and Daedra:
1. They are both divine, and for all intensive purposes immortal
2. They were once both the same thing, before the creation of the world. The Aedra helped to create the world, weakening themselves in the process, while the Daedra retained their original power. Thus why the Daedra can interfere in Mundus more.
3. The Nine Divines (the ones the chapels are for: Stendarr, Akatosh, Kyraneth, etc.) are Aedra, while the statues you find in the wilderness of Cyrodiil are daedra.

The Daedra all live in different planes of Oblivion, alternate dimensions over which they have total control. The Nine Divines (Aedra) are the planets around the mortal world, while the moons (2) are Lorkhan (the trickster god who convinced the other gods to create the world, after which they turned on him and cut out his heart). Lorkhan's Heart is what gave the Tribunal (Vivec and them) their powers of immortality and otherwise.

The continent of Tamriel has several provinces, or countries, that usually have different climates and generally a home race (Argonians come from the Black Marsh). Outside of the main continent of Tamriel there exist several island nations, including the Summerset Isles, Yokuda, Akavir, etc.

I'm sure you know about the major races, which each have their own unique history and culture. If you want to know about those, just ask :)

I'd dispute that. ?dra can certainly be killed, whereas D?dra are truly immortal in that they can only be "banished." Also, the phrase you meant to use was "for all intents and purposes" (which is in itself intensive because it is pleonastic, so there's some humor :P).

Hows that for a straight answer? I doubt you'll appreciate or realise its beauty though.

A Dragon Break start when multiple gods control the ordering of events in time, it ends when said gods stop doing this. The end result is then a combination of all generated timelines.

That wasn't too hard right?

For some folks (other than me), the very notion of a mutable timeline can be anywhere from hopelessly confusing to frightfully threatening. It doesn't matter how "simple" it might seen to people like ourselves.

I finished Oblivion and am currently playing Morrowind, but I must admit, I don't understand a word of what is said in the books or what the people in the game say. For example, they always say "Muthsera." Muthsera here, Muthsera there, Muthsera everywhere. What the hell is this? And what is a Daedra? Is it some kind of demon or a God? What's an Aedra? In Morrowind, they say there's trouble in Cyrodil. Is it a city in Russia? Or some island in the Pacific ocean? Where's the Summerset island and what is it? What's an Akaviri? Is it some kind of God like Almsivi? Is Almsivi a God like Sheogoroth? Is Sheogoroth a god or a Daedra? Or Aedra? Are the Trubunal gods (Vivec, Dagoth Ur, Almsivia etc.) gods or daedra? What's Blackmarsh? A region in Germany or some desert in South Africa? What's a mer? What's the difference between a man and a mer? Bretons are supposed to be men and Altmer mer (or is it the other way around?) But they all look human to me. What's Oblivion? Is it like the Greek Olymp mountain where the Gods reside? But Sheogoroth sits in the Shivering Isles, not in Oblivion. Or are the Shivering Isles part of Oblivion?

Yes, I know there's a lore section on uesp wiki. But I don't have the time to read it for hours, no do I feel like reading all this stuff. Boooring. Can someone please provide a short introduction to the Elder scrolls universe to clear things up a little?

Also, where does this universe come from? Who invented it? Was it invented by Bethesda, similar to Black Isles inventing the Fallout universe all by themselves or is it some kind of PnP universe similar to the D&D universe owned by Wizards of the Coast and licensed to various developer teams like Bioware and Obsidian for purposes of creating digital games like NWN2 or Icewind Dale?

At least someone admits they don't understand it, rather than pretending they care more about the graphics and combat. Looking at you OB enthusiasts.

Hmm, I suppose so. Thanks for the grammar issue correction, I'll keep that in mind (the one time I forget to spell check )

Not really, but I'm sorry if I sounded offensive. Did I misread some of the people's comments, or is the OP there the writer of some Vehk lore?

Why are you here? Are you from Fallout? Hello over there

I see, I was put off by your avatar and name; I don't visit the lore forum often. I just figured since you said "You OB enthusiasts" that you meant Fallout. I now believe that you meant something along the lines of "OB wasn't very good for lore".
