Even if the AI in Oblivion was a little...silly, at times(understatement, I know), it still felt more real than in Morrowind where people just stood around all day, and shops stayed open 24/7, and the shopkeeps never went to their bed which they clearly had, and certain NPCs never went into the houses they owned, etc.
(PS: Not trying to berate Morrowind. It was earlier on, and there were different limits, I know.)

I say nay. I do want RAI. It makes things far more believable and interesting then NPC's who just stand around and do nothing.
I say nay again. I do not want a bunch of non-interactable NPC's like in Fo3. One thing I love about Elder Scrolls is being able to talk to everyone, read every book I see, everything is tangible. Oblivion was the tip of the iceberg. I believe with Skyrim we will see RAI vastly improved and maybe even see a few ladies set fire to their dogs :P

Sure, radiant AI is trying to simulate real life activity for the NPCs. But seriously, I really don't care about what they do everyday. On the other hand, it makes it really hard to try to find them (yea yea I know there's the magical arrow, but if we mod it out to get a challenging gaming experience, it's impossible to find an NPC cuz they could be anywhere during the day, and at night they are locked up in the houses). It's like every effort in trying to simulate real life in a game, it doesn't feel right until you put every aspect of real life in, which is not possible with today's technology.

If they use radiant AI, they should at least give you the option to ask another NPC where and how to find a certain person.
what about no ,statics NPC make the world boring, and doesn't really belong in a modern open world RPG.

Radiant AI is one of the additions I want most, it makes the world more believable. It′s annoying/funny to find npc′s staring at walls for hours and with no reactions to their sorroundings

The AI will be more advanced I mean in Oblivion if the Enemy heard you and said "What's that" or "Damn Rats always scurrying around in the shadows making me jumpy", They didn't really go out and search for you unlike in Fallout 3 when your sneaking and a Raider hears you, he or she will search around until they find you, you kill them, or they just give up "False Alarm people".

Hopefully they don't have NPC's travel to different towns like in Oblivion. It's very unlikely that Quill Weave (After The Fighters Guild Quest That She's involved with) will be able to make it to Chorrol from Anvil only armed with Regular Clothing and possibly an Iron Dagger. That needs to be changed in Skyrim.

What? Why is it unlikely that NPCs can make it from one town to the next? People have done so for thousands of years, without iron daggers even.

I think there should be more people in general. I see how it's a problem if you can't interact with all of them, but some cities just feel very empty. As did the arena in Imperial City with, like, 10 people in the stands. It's also kinda trivial to bump into the same people in the streets again and again in a city which by all rights should have thousands of inhabitants. I wouldn't mind if there were some 'rag-dolls' which you couldn't interact with. It would just add flavor to the game imo.

they should place multitude of non-interactable NPCs in the cities. When you enter a city they are placed randomly. The core NPC's can still do their daily business, but we must be able to find them by asking other npc

They should, they should, they should... I'm very tired of reading what they should do. They are proffesiuonal people, they know how to make a game lots of times better than you. Ok, it's good to give ideas, but other very different thing is stating how things should be. Why do you say why they should do? Actually, I find your idea pure crap. What's the problem with realism? You want inmmesion but not NPCs simulating real people? Come on... start a topic when you have something sensible to do...

Useless topic.

Well said :) it is a silly idea and the people at BGS will most probably have some functions in place to help make this Radiant AI much better :)

These NPCs should be low resolution until you get close, at which point they'd pivot in place and load the high res verrsion, who remains perfectly still in the default pose until you walk away.

The Ashcroft Residence? I think you'll find that to the East of here.

NPCs to be glued on the spot night and day, sun, rain or snow... oh, and with a yellow exclamation mark over their heads. And don't voice over their dialog and let us see the reward of the quest we're getting!

Oh... wait...

I lol'd, but on topic, Anything that makes the game seem more "alive" is a plus for me.

If the original poster does not want RAI, then i think maybe he should nevermind getting Skyrim or indeed any future TES games that try and improve NPC behaviour.

Perhaps try Two Worlds 2, that might be more up your street.

I`m glad Beth are implementing RAI and admint i`m quite excited to see an improved system in Skyrim.

Anything that helps bring NPC`s to a lifelike state has to be an improvement over ye old "stand in a spot with a name over yer head" type nonsense.

Anyone for a game of pong?

Was Two Worlds 2 any good??

anyways back on topic WE the majority of the community here want RAI, no one in reality stands still all day, everyone does something unique even if all the NPC's have 10 programmed routines that would be lovely.

Brace yourself for the backlash...

"OMG another Morrowind 'really devoted fan' who thinks that's the best way!!1!!one!!"

But really, what could be wrong with Radiant AI like they had in Obliv...er...nevermind.

Well, if you fancy a game that amounts to "Assassin`s Creed the RPG". Thats the only way I can sum it up really.

In fairness, the Graphics are very nice and combat cinematics are quite good. The trouble is when you`ve completed it you notice that a. The world is not really open at all and actually fairly small. b. Very small variety of enemies and lack of decent respawn means the land soon becomes empty. c. there is no decent loot or variety and the dungeons you do find (without having to unlock them first with the relevant quest) are pretty boring. Reality Pump also made a huge boo boo by not having the largest island on the map availabe for full exploration, it is quite empty at the moment and probably is being kept for future DLC.

Overall - The single player side seems quite rushed and that becomes noticeable after Chapter 3 with the storyline. One plus is the Multiplayer - huge potential for something different with the Village mode - although it`s quite boring at the moment as you just build some structures, get income and do repetive kill the ghouls/spiders/ants type quest over and over every 10 minutes or so.

I`d say it needs a fair bit of work still to make it really good instead of average. Unlock the largest Island, Add decent loot content and a decent respawn system. Maybe add some lootable human Bandits also.

sorry to go off topic there, and Yeah we want our RAI ;)

That's way too much to ask. After all, what other Daggerfall features they've kept so far? Very few.

Well according to the GI article Radiant AI has been evolved into what they call Radiant Story, A system in the game records everything you do and creates scenarios and events in reaction to it.

Put simply , the radiant AI system is about reacting to player actions in everything from the tiniest detail to the broadest plot point

But Radiant AI allows us to have quests that are flavored dramatically fo who you are and where you are. The game itself watches everything you do. What skills have you improved? What places have you visited? Who have you killed? What weapons do you own? Which figures in the world are your friends, and who are your enemies?

^ from page 53
I for one like the "Radiant" concept and hope that it will be more polished this time around.

RAdiant AI has NOTHING to do with that this is called, assigning schedule and waypoint.

People confound the radiant AI stupid dialogues with other features, no wonder they like it.
