I don't want radiant AI...

Post » Thu Feb 03, 2011 10:01 pm

Sure, radiant AI is trying to simulate real life activity for the NPCs. But seriously, I really don't care about what they do everyday. On the other hand, it makes it really hard to try to find them (yea yea I know there's the magical arrow, but if we mod it out to get a challenging gaming experience, it's impossible to find an NPC cuz they could be anywhere during the day, and at night they are locked up in the houses). It's like every effort in trying to simulate real life in a game, it doesn't feel right until you put every aspect of real life in, which is not possible with today's technology.

If they use radiant AI, they should at least give you the option to ask another NPC where and how to find a certain person.

Radiant AI used for better reactions to your actions is absolutely awesome imo. I don't mind looking for someone, I actually enjoy having to find out a bit about the person.. so ya I like it... if it works this time around that is

Well to be honest I would like it in, they would be able to make it much more immersive then static (Oblivion) and well maybe they have implemented an option to as other NPC's where a specific person is. We can't expect people to constantly be in the same spot. They have a life to live on this world so thats that to be honest :)

And I hate winter, but that won't go away...
Really, we don't actually know how advanced RAI is, or what it's exactly doing. You seem to know more about it than everyone here, but you're just speculating. They haven't said too much about it, plus the hype can be very dangerous. We should wait some months before being frightened by it.

Would you rather the NPCs just stand around in the same general area all day long?

Personally, not only do I want the Radiant AI to make them behave more like real people, I want to see the system improved. I want to see NPCs react even to the weather, liking going inside when it's raining (as opposed to standing around outside getting soaked).

NPCs to be glued on the spot night and day, sun, rain or snow... oh, and with a yellow exclamation mark over their heads. And don't voice over their dialog and let us see the reward of the quest we're getting!

Oh... wait...

Radiant AI sets it apart from anything else and it improves immersion greatly so: I want Radiant AI :P

they should place multitude of non-interactable NPCs in the cities. When you enter a city they are placed randomly. The core NPC's can still do their daily business, but we must be able to find them by asking other npc

I don't see how adding hordes of "non-interactable NPCs" solves the issues you complain about

We find the core NPC's by interacting with the non-interact-able NPCS? I wish you would stop making topics :(

It's completely possible with today's technology. They were on the verge of it in 2006 and now they have had 5 years to perfect and improve it. People are always saying how they want the game more challenging but when something more challenging into the game they want it removed because it's challenging. I don't get it.

Dude... This is TES, not Mass effect. EVERY npc has to be interactable. It's more than a tradition, it's a rule.
And we don't know how far Radiant AI has evolved now. Oblivion is 4 years old now. In video games industry, that's a lot.

Well I hope they thought trough the radiant AI thing, like for example if NPC gave you the quest that NPC should although make sure you can find them to report what you have done - in live when we ask people to do things for us we make sure they can contact us, not just go about our daily lives and hope they'll bump in to us again someday. And since we well not even be able to ask people about the NPCs location most of the time - simply because you can't record the dialog for all the posible locations of every NPC at any given time, the means of finding our quest giver should be very well thought through.

Non interactable OVER interactable? Really. And i want to fight Immobile Dragons the whole game, and on top of that, unmoving shadows, water, snow and wind.

It worked in Arena and Daggerfall. ;)

I recall it was implemented in each TES to some extent just not to the point of were they know where they are for every step they take. Usually it is a clear area or house location they share.

The AI will be more advanced I mean in Oblivion if the Enemy heard you and said "What's that" or "Damn Rats always scurrying around in the shadows making me jumpy", They didn't really go out and search for you unlike in Fallout 3 when your sneaking and a Raider hears you, he or she will search around until they find you, you kill them, or they just give up "False Alarm people".

Hopefully they don't have NPC's travel to different towns like in Oblivion. It's very unlikely that Quill Weave (After The Fighters Guild Quest That She's involved with) will be able to make it to Chorrol from Anvil only armed with Regular Clothing and possibly an Iron Dagger. That needs to be changed in Skyrim.
