Im done after 30 - 40 hours whats going on here?

Post » Mon Aug 23, 2010 11:19 pm

I really liked F3. Cant remember how much time i spent there, how many hours of my life i wasted on that virtual wasteland but i never regret on single minute. I enjoyed exploring every ruin and sneaking through metro clearing it from ghouls. Some places didn't contain enemies, but at least there was some note or few skeletons with some crazy story that add some new layer of atmosphere.

After 5 days of playing (more than 40 hours of play), i must agree with Solid on most parts. There is too many empty and wasted spots on map with markers that actually marks nothing. Examples are endless, so i will post few of them.

*contain spoilers

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Searchlight_Airport

I can share same impression on searchlight airport and my first contact with that spot. Absolutely Nothing there. Few radscorpions, one crashed airplane and hole in the ground. Building is closed from all sides. Wasted space on map, so lame. After few more hours of playing you realize that there is more places like searchlight airport and even more wasted potential.

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Gomorrah

One of the most boring/empty-est places ever. During quest How little we know, in this huge endless casino with probably more than 50 rooms, player will be dragged up and down the empty floors for hours. I was expecting some huge Omerta gangster gunfight, anything that will justify that wasted space. Story ended very lame with killing two guys in their office. That was a last time that i spent a minute in Vegas strip. From then i was doing quests outside Vegas with no desire to return back. Goodbye Casinos.

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Jacobstown

Is that a town?. On wiki its under Settlements..... but there is only one huge empty building. Whatever it is it contain two Quests that include one speech test and one small cave exploring and..... its gone.

I don't even want to start about Boulder City. Its everything except city. Sloan ? Mining town? few shacks at best...

Its easy to say go role-play, and you will have 500+ hours in game.... to do what? I can make my character to be collector of teddy bears with fine taste for Iguana sticks, Dandy Boy apples and Absinthe .... will my character fill empty space between useless markers? NO. Collecting Dandy Boy apples and selling them to merchants is not gonna make my game any better or expand my "role-play experience".

Will i have more than 500+ hours, yes... 500 hours of nothing.....

ok this topic, makes me missing fallout 3 alot.... :( :(

well... i think ill start a new game in new vegas, when they have finally patched the quests,

im confused now.. i hope i dont experience the same emptiness .... i loved reading stuff on computers.

i feel like having a very bad guess....

i hope with all that faction stuff, they didnt forget what was really important in fallout 3, and why people love this game. come one you didnt do that failure.
you're not EA games!!!

we are not cinema-game-players, we dont want a movie of a couple hours, we want a true game, dont fail please.

I would hope the content is at least on par with FO3. I like the overall feel of the game better than in FO3. It sees more desolate and realistic. Creatures don't clutter the instance and it adds more of a sense of suspense. I've been taking it slow and walking most everywhere rather than running. Not power gaming. Not trying to find out all the secrets. Honestly how someone could run around and hit every location and every quest and all content in 30-40 hours is beyond me. That's like a toon on crack or something.

Judging from the game design my guess is it's a small team that put this together. Overall quality is great but they didn't have to concentrate on building it from the ground up. Alot is cut n paste from FO3 and that's ok. My impression is the devs borrowed greatly from the player made mods. Not direct ports but used some of the good ideas from the modding community and incorporated them into FONV. Someone had a good story to tell and a good idea about the game design and got the green light. My hope is Beth is really hard at work behind the scenes on TE: V. Course we might just be looking at things being sort of left out so there's some DL content to purchase but that's just me being a pessimist... Beth wouldn't do that would they? :P

So far I'm really enjoying FO NV though. IMO it's far superior to FO3 in SOOOOooo many ways. Really would of liked to see more activity in New Vegas though. When you get right down to it there's really not very many people there. Should be more with more going on. And def would of enjoyed NV being a bit more massive with much more to do withing the city itself. Still.... good time. Good game.

i put 65 hours in before i beat the main quest and i had barely explored the map and had at least 20 quests in the queue, i think it'll be easy to put more time in new vegas. yes i found a few places where there was very little to nothing but a lot of places in FO3 where the same way. i have a hard time believing the people who say that they've been every where and completed the MQ in 40 hours. i feel theres more to do than in FO3

Also, what you do in various towns / camps / sidequests affects the news of the "NCR Emergency Broadcast" radio station that pops up during the ending.

You rushed through. And don't say, "No, I didn't," because I'm at 40 hours, level 18, and I just got to the strip.

In F3, you earned your recognition, and virtually everyone knew you, eventually. Your character became larger than life in a game that actually catered for larger than life characters. That's the way F3 was intended to be, and it did it rather well. Granted there's differences in FNV, and it's a great game in some aspects, but in some ways it's more Gunsmoke Meets Good Fellas, and really, your character is not really that important in the scheme of things generally.

You serious? Aside from some meaningless Karma gain, Three-woof rant and some random comments about your karma from wastelanders, your choices do not have much impact on the game.
How many people knew I blew up Megaton or saved them from eeeeevil enclave?

In NV, person X at least ACKNOWLEDGED that I killed person Y(they even recognize some of my companions!) most of the time, while in F3 it's the same "Well, Moriarty thinks he runs the place", while he's just a rotting corpse right now.

There is also the "town reputation" which makes more sense than F3

Are there collectibles similar to the experimental MIRV or Bobbleheads?

I'm not saying these items are good but it gave me reason to explore, especially the first time I played Fallout 3. I'm not expecting the same amount of exploration as FO3 in NV however people cannot deny the standout locations in FO3. Most buildings had their own little story and it added to the atmosphere.

If NV does story and RPG to a good standard I'm not worried. Fallout 3 is my exploration game so I'll play it when I want to explore. People need to see them more as different games. Besides I doubt I have seen everything in Fallout 3 so if I miss that aspect when I'm playing NV I can go back no problem.

It does feel empty and initially I could not figure out why, I mean there are a lot of locations, plenty to explore, but there are two outstanding things in my opinoin that account for the emptyness, first is the lack of content in locations, for example I found an air field complete with tower and lobby, but they are just facades, you cannot enter them, I've found this in a lot of locations, the other is a lack of interesting characters, like Moira in FO3 for example, she was marmite, you either loved or hated her but you never forgot her, as I type this I'm trying to think of a character in F:NV that stands out, I cannot, they are all quite bland, don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying the game, but it lacks character both in the world and in the people, New Vegas was certainly a dissapointment to me, too many loading doors and very little in the way of what is "supposed" to be a thriving city.

On a plus, it is nice that the companions are a little more on a personal level.

Chief Hanlon dude! and Victor! Everyone loves Victor.

I agree with Solid on this. This game is much less fleshed out and superficial as an experience. Fallout 3 had way way more attention to detail and a greater sense of atmosphere. Those little back stories to characters and situations were far more interesting than what is presented here. The world is Fallout 3 was far more interesting with dungeons and and the subway and the city to explore. I liked the isolating feeling of being in a desolate wasteland. This is like going to a Disney Land version of fallout 3. Vegas in real can be thought of as a Disney Land for advlts lol. I really don't give a hoot about the factions or the main quest. Its hollow and the side quests are very boring fetch missions. I'm not sure why people think this is a better experience? Fallout 3 did so many little details very well. New Vegas is a blonde with big boobs. Sure she's fun but its surface. Fallout 3 is like a decent looking woman with a brain who you can have deeper conversations with. At the end of the day I don't take New Vegas as seriously or recommend it over Fallout 3 to new comers.

This is basically Red Faction 4 in a Fallout 3 skin and Red Faction 4 was a little better than this.

Fallout new vegas seems kind off empty compared to fallout 3

I can but disagree here - though that stems from me not being all that keen on pointless random exploring. Sure, if you go off the course to just see "what's behind the next hill" (as it seemed to be the core design of Fallout 3) there isn't as much stuff - but the goal of New Vegas seems to be giving a point to what you're doing (at the expense of randomness to a degree) by giving more quests, and the way I see it that's the right way to do it. The amount of stuff to do is staggering and the exploration aspect comes from finding and doing them - giving an incentive to roam around instead of roaming around out of mere urge of roaming around. Sure, some random locations could've use some more flesh around their bones (and to be quite honest, the map could've been better off being smaller and more concentrated - but that's just my opinion) but they are (imo) easily overwhelmed by the stuff that have a point - the quests.

Sounds to me like you need to walk around and stop using fast travel, i was around 70 hours by the time i found all locations, i was at 90 hours when i finished the game, (kinda rushed the end due to my game starting to freeze up every 30 minutes to an hour)

I find walking around exploring & discovering places and items/sights the most enjoyable part of the game, if they could make a map 20 times the size of Fallout New Vegas I can guarantee you I would still be walking around and ignoring the fast travel.

(P.s, i wouldn't walk through the map either, i don't need to get stuck under the map!. :whistling:

I think that's such a weak argument, why should I ignore a game mechanic on purpose just to make the game SEEM longer? It's like saying yeah call of duty's campaign was super long because I backtracked 10% of the level everytime I killed someone. The only reason I could think of
why you would ignore fast travel in new vegas is because you want to make the game seem longer, not becuase there's anything to see. There are no random events so why even bother walking somewhere when there's just blank wasteland in between? Please explain to me I'm not trying to be sarcastic.

Just a suggestion, i grew up in the country and use to explore a lot in the woods, i don't have that option where i live now however and i make up for it in games i suppose.

I guess i could try a national park but it really isn't quite the same sticking to the beaten path. XD

Hm... then i must create new character and start all over....

Something like Crippled sick old [censored]. My "roleplay" will allow him only to crawl, and since there is no option for that, i will sneak whole map even there is no point to do that. As result i will have much richer "roleplay expirience" and game will be over 1000 hours of great fun. As an extra, he is such a great character that he only eats Bighorner meat and use only Tire iron and Rolling Pin as weapon. This will enable me additional 300+ hours of pure lobotomy and isolated agony but hey - i will play much longer.....

i will soon finish the game at 60 hours as i am at hoover dam/president kimball
then there is one battle after that
i saved my game in the strip prior to that so i could still go one of three ways
that save i will keep, then on to red dead redemption, back to halo etc
i am done with this game will see what the dlc offers

now if u only focused on the main quest the game is short
and actually by exploring all the areas you will have done parts to the main quest

i have found over 175 locations and since i took the explorer perk i know where the other few are
i think there are about 188 spots to find
the majority are very very useless

the only side quest i did not do was vault 34
and since i sided with the ncr the quests for caesar are blocked
so i have done it all
with a zillion glitches and freezes, do i get a new console if this game destroys it?

oblivion had a huge map with over 360 real locations
the dlc added to that
besides it was a pretty game
and the expansion added more to that
i played that game for over 3 years on both consoles and the pc
on the xbox i started and finished well over 20 plus characters and have nearky 6000 saves
a really really great game, this is just a shadow of a game in comparison
i wait for the next TES V, not another fallout game

yes i did play fallout 3 as well played on both consoles
it has a far bigger map and for me more to do but bethesda game studios made that one
i just love to explore and find things and on an open world game that is how i start and play when the game allows me to do so
quests become secondary

I love open world games and buy nearly all of them because of that, red dead redemption, far cry 2, the sabatuer, just cause 2, crackdown, dead rising 1&2 etc etc
all sandbox games

fallout new vegas is actually more linear as well obsidians alpha protocal, and i thought that (AP) was more of a fps rather than an rpg
they seemed to be trying to make a more complex world by the various actions you take and the repercussions of said actions have on the game world
they did a decent job on that, but i found the strip a real boor and very empty
dead rising 2 they said had about 7000 zombies at ONE time [i believe that -lol-they were wall to wall] love that game

fallout nv actually was not ready for the market, without the bugs it is a nice game, just for me NOT a great game but i would recommend it
but only if they fix the issues with the game
i never had that many bugs with bethsda game studios games or rockstars

games may have some problems upon release but not this many
i have 100 save slots and i have saved about 250 times , not a record but a lot

so if you will forgive me
i have a president to save then off to do a battle

then must go help john marston save new auston and his family from zombies!!
then i will be dethroning a king-my brother- to take his place
have fun today!!
may your day be glitch free-lol

Set yourself some targets, I have such as:

Kill some deathclaws with only melee
Get very good at explosives and try and create some awesome mine traps
Infiltrate 'The Fort' whilst sneaking and kill everyone silently without being detected.

Stuff like that keeps me occupied and gives me something to work towards.

Some of you people are being ridiculous. I finished my first play at 48 hours, and I rushed that, left many things undone.
I started again last night, here is what I have to report.

4 hours in, not touched a SINGLE quest (besides tut for the rifle) and I have not went south past primm, or past primm pass.
I did try to go North of good springs, that was a bad idea.
Managed to just make it half way to level 6, all with out doing ANY quests. I have had to flee from some giant scoprs. Using W.W for the first time, and its really neat.

I have discovered MANY new map markers, that help me jump back and forth between town and where I was while I was exploring.

So far I have ventured so far exploring that, (never been to the places before)

1) ran into one D.C at primm pass. Had to flee.

2) Tried to go North on the back road from primm, Had to flee due to caezadors.

3) Encountered a S.M.M and a small gang of centaurs, had to withdraw after stealth killing 3 centaurs.

4)Found a new location, Prospectors tavern or something, good loot. Nice safe house. Further testing required before committing to using this as a safe house. Has everything I need.
campfire outside, reloading bench inside. Several containers. My own sarsa vending machine.

5) found new location again after heading back to town. Hells motel. and a marked area. Something crater.

6) back to town, went east. Found more new locations. abandoned shack, Some sort of huge cross and a wolfs den with some good loot for a starting character.

7)Visited Hidden valley, small amount of caps stockpile, about 1,500 caps.

Stopped for the night.

Not bad for four hours of NON quest related exploring, planning on hitting level 10+ before I start the quest in primm. I think tonight I will work my way north towards the rock quarry, but stop before I reach the Death claws.
Need to discover Mojave outpost for repairs to my weapons.
Need to visit primm, but not start any quest.
Planning on coming back with better rifle and killing D.C at prim pass and finishing off centaurs and S.M.M. Finish exploring around Primm pass.
Need to visit G.S school and unlock safe.

Need to visit the NCRCF while I am non hostile to them and check for quests, before doing quest at primm.

I don't get how it's possible though. I'm 65 hours in and I'm not even halfway done yet. I only just recruited Cass, and we're off doing her quests. Seriously, almost every person you meet in Freeside/NCR camps gives you quests to do, and if you do them (instead of rushing to the finish) this game is massive. I'll check back when I hit the 100 hour mark...
