I've Done it Now

Post » Mon Jan 27, 2014 6:31 pm

I'm about to maybe sin.

I am going to put away Skyrim, for Final Fantasy, the new ones. The two ones before Lightning Returns.

I'm a sinner. Punish me now and put holy water on me.

Why? Because I have never been a fan of FF. I've played the first on the Gameboy. I've played the one on the N64 before. And a couple on the PS2 after a while, to me they feel like the same game, with the same character stereotypes. Blah blah blah.

But Skyrim just isn't doing it for me.

What I hate about JRPGS, a lot of them have your character made for you. What I have always liked about Western RPGs I get to build my own character and my own backstory. But that's gone in the past. Since Western RPGs want to throw away the "spreadsheety" DND and Pathfinder build and go for more action adventure. Because no one can understand the complex system that is the spreadsheet.

Good luck. I never got far in 13. It's a bit more on the linear side, anyway. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing, I suppose. I don't really mind premade characters, really. Sure some of their personality is set in stone, but sometimes it's nice to have that.

I'm quite sure I'm a minority on this, but I actually really enjoyed 13. Beat it actually. Only Final Fantasy game I can even say that for. xD

One tip: Don't get in the habit of trying to avoid enemies. You need the experience. And if you get up to a boss fight and realize you just aren't strong enough to win? Worst feeling in the world.

I play Shin Megami Tensei.

How much harder can FF be?

Shin Megami Tensei four is balls hard, okay. I beat it with my life barely in tact. How I won with 1hp will be beyond a miracle to me

Good luck. Final Fantasy has been dumbed down since XIII.

LOL. I wasn't trying to make it sound extremely difficult. Just giving a tip, as I screwed myself quite hard by not training enough. I tried that boss at least 15 times before I was like, what could I possibly doing wrong? Turns out that yeah, I was just way underdeveloped.

Well as I said, not a fan of JRPGS.

But there has been on series I have faithfully boughten all the games for. That would be the Shin Megami series. I'm on the opposite of the spectrum. While there are those hardcoe FF fans who collect everything. It's been Shin Megami for me.

All the Persona Games

Digital and Demon Saga

Nocturne

The MMO

Shin Megami 4

Shin Megami Soul Hackers

I love Shin Megami. The stories are always intriguing. And it has always always always kept that mystery in its story. Its why I love Shin Megami. But I beat all my games I have of them and I need something. Anything....to beat Skyrim blues right now.

I haven't beat Shin Megami Tensei IV yet, but it is difficult. I'll get back to it eventually. I enjoyed FFXIII and FFXIII-2. The first felt linear until you get to the second part of the game. The second deals with time travel which is something I like in a videogame.

Haha, yea. Shin Megami is WAY more difficult.

Shin Megami IVs map is [censored] though. Once you get to Tokyo. I think half of my rage quit was not being able to find where I was going. Which is fine by me, I love when a game challenges my sense of direction, but then that doesn't mean I'm not chucking the 3DS out the window.

Shin Megami 4 has some difficult boss. But I still think out of the whole series, Nocturne's bosses were harder.

Especially the Cat Man. He was such an arseface. He kept switching between physical and magical resistance. So, he had a physical shield on, so I had load up my whole party to attack with magic, His first turn, after like 4 turns passed, he puts a magic defense on. My party got screwed. U89G9875G2378G783G4FG789 Insane gibberish of how much I raged over that.

I really hate to say it, but people who say that Final Fantasy hasn't been good since VII really irk me. Especially those who bash FFXIII for being different. If anything, commend the company for taking a risk and making something they wanted to try rather than recreating the same game mechanics and story over and over like Activision does. I enjoyed FFXIII, I really love the world, characters, and I didn't find the story to be as bad as everyone makes it out to be.

One of the few gripes I have with the game is that I feel I've barely scratched the surface when it comes to all the lore the world most likely has when I reached the endgame. One thing I like more about the new FF games than the old ones are that the worlds and lore are much, much deeper now than before. XIII-2 is a decent game, but it's not as great as XIII, despite being less linear, and I was quite put out by the ending. As for Lightning Returns, I'm not even sure if I'm going to play that because I'd rather Square Enix release FFXV already so that I can play that and be introduced to another awesome world with awesome characters than play another XIII sequel where the world and character have pretty much lost their lustre. I'll see what people think about Lightning Returns upon release.

Well I have an obsession with corruption.

See, the reason why Lightning Returns appeals to me, is because of the chaos corruption thing. I haven't played any of the other two, but one of my family members has both of them.

I'm a horror writer, but also a fantasy writer.

Somehow the weird stuff has appealed to me. When I say the weird stuff, I'm talking Venom, Carnage, symbiotes. I love that movie Akira, where he gets consumed by his own power and starts to expand and explode. I love the Darkspawn. Anything that corrupts and decays and changes humanity for the worse. I may have a mild obsession, okay a big obsession with it.

So, Lightning Returns has a dark fog turning people crazy and evil. To me that's cool.

Admittedly, I haven't looked too far into LR on account of losing interest, but the concept sounds interesting (I write horror and weird fiction, too). So there's one point for LR.

Have you tried Fallout 3 or Fallout New Vegas? First two are good too if you like tabletop.

Also Dragon's Dogma. I believe it's Japanese(?) though you can create your own character.

Dragon Age: Origins was a good game too, as are the Mass Effect series.

Yes, I've played Fallout 3 and FNV. FNV is the greatest game to ever exist. To bad I have to rebuy it. I moved from California to my a new home in Colorado, and only have a PS3 for my system. I loved FNVs story and factions. I use to cause arguments about F3 and FNV, I only speak the truth.

That's why I like Dragon's Dogma. But see DD is more like a fusion of a western rpg and a japanese rpg.

DAO is good.

Mass Effect is all right, I liked the first one, the second was all right, and the third I never played. I boycott Bioware and EA. I believe as consumers, we shouldn't be buying into companies who accept average.

Dragon Age 2 was so horrendous, I was on the forums for Bioware back then. They banned members for speaking their opions. I remember reading a couple of articles after facing backlash where Bioware was saying things like "fans don't know what they want"

So I say f you. And I will never buy a game from them ever again.

There are no FF games for GB or N64...

There's nothing wrong with enjoying both Skyrim and Final Fantasy, no need to make a big deal about it. Though FFXIII doesn't exactly have a complex stat system, so if that's what you're looking for FFVII or FFVIII may be a better choice.

Don't know much about Final Fantasy beyond the films, but I hear they [the games] are good if you're into the genre.

Gameboy Color. There was an FF for that system. I swear to god for a handhelf.

And there was one for the Playstation. Excuse me.

But there is, cause I don't normally like FF. I really don't like the series. So I am making a big deal because its FF or Skyrim
