with fallout 1? I destroyed the mariposa base and got out side and wait for ten minutes and the cut scene plays but after it kicks me to the main menu is this how the game ends?

Did you destroy the cathedral too? Since the master isn't at Mariposa Military base. A cut scene does play.. But I dunno why it waited for 10 minutes.. Why didn't you just leave the area instead of waiting for 10 minutes? Now I guess its fallout 2 for ya.. Which may be a little painful to play at the beginning since its beginning is such a bore.. But Fallout 2 has some really cool towns which are on like the opposite corner of the map.

Umm.. How strange. Umm load a save and go to the cathedral than deal with mariposa. Thats how I dealt with the game. I mean I thought the way I did it was wrong but perhaps thats the right way?

Did you go back into the wasteland (world map) or did you just stand outside of the Cathedral? Cause if you just stood in front of it, then you are dead.

I think he did that but at Mariposa instead.
