Yeah I do miss holotapes. I dont mind reading them, but instead of reading some guys sad monologue, if you ehar the actor portraying it, it tends to add more somber tones.

Found a holotape, I couldn't even take it with me in case I wanted to read it later! It only activated the on-screen text when I clicked on it.

It is the only thing they took away from FO3. To me holotapes had the most emotions in them. You heard the last moments of that npc life and 200 years later their is that person's skeleton holding another skeleton. it would be nice to hear another father looking for medicine for his dying son while hiding under a radio tower. Rest In Peace audible holotapes

Screw holotapes, I want diaries and paper notes that stay in my inventory and don't transfer to bytes.

Funny thing is that, they were virtually the only thing that seemed real in FO3. But back to the topic, there certainly is audio holotapes in NV, but probably not just many, or they are quest related like the ones in Ranger Station Charlie. But what do you expect, if there were any prewar holotapes they would have been scavenged a long time ago, since the environment near Vegas ain't that harsh as in DC, and then again the bombs didn't hit Vegas, so there aren't any desperate post-war survival tapes around.

There are still audio tapes, but not many. Shame, I miss them, and I don't know why they've been taken out.

This.

I agree 100% , the letters read ok, but if you have the actors voice portraing them instead it would be more richer & add more depth to the feelings of what people are going through. I guess bottom line it is just cheaper to have less Holotapes voice acted, but come on, plenty of starving actors out there surely ?

I've found a couple. I would have loved to hear that insane nightkin's ramblings as an audiotape though.

Exactly, "My Dearest little Moonbeam" wouldn't have added much atmosphere if I had just read it, sometimes you just gotta listen to things to take in what happened, if that makes sense

Can't say that I agree with that. A performance depends on the actor and director, and what you get in even the best cases is their interpretation. Since you're not "involved" in it, hearing or seeing is a more passive action than reading, where your imagination has to play a large part. That's why you can get much more engrossed, immersed, and involved in a book than you can in a movie.

Note: I didn't say you DO get more immersed, only that you can be. Whether or not you do depends on the quality of the writing. Actors can make poor writing better, show how great good writing is, and all that, but in the end when you hear or see a performance, your in a much more passive role than you are when reading.

All that said, I liked the audio holotapes.

It's a rip-off from Bioshock.

You do realize that many games which came before Bioshock used recorded audio logs, right? Even Bioshock's predecessor, System Shock 2.

Also, I don't know what there is to complain about. Fallout 1 and 2 had holodisks that were text-only. Besides, reading is fun.

I think he was referencing recorded audio logs. But even then, System Shock 2 (1999), Doom 3 (2004), and I'm sure there's quite a few others that I'm forgetting.

System Shock pretty much = Bioshock and Doom 3 doesn't have the RPG feel to it.

I just have to say, the game designers got very lazy with alot of the cooler features of FO3. I would list them, but it would turn into a "very" long book.

Yeah, but you're missing the point: the Fallout series never "ripped off" Bioshock. Recorded audio logs are not a concept that Bioshock invented. Your original post doesn't make any sense.

Also, System Shock 2 is way more deep and engaging than Bioshock. If anything, System Shock 2 > Bioshock.
