Don't forget that the Fallout universe is not our universe. the world is a 50's style world where everybody thought cars etc would e run on nuclear power instead of oil.

It's definitely a world without Mr. Dyson - their vacuum cleaners look rubbish.

 The addition of a sixbot doesn't surprise me, but the toaster bit was a curveball!

Surely the "toaster" part is hyperbole...

warning, extreme spoiler alert. this should explain things although.
Spoiler
fallout 3 is kinda branched off of around the 50s. instead of avoiding a nuclear age they kinda jump into it. this made power alot more avaiable and offensive technology skyrocketed (and some urban technology). culture kinda just froze although. household appliances wernt really researched (the fire extinguishers for example, there old, i have same ones and my house is older than my great grandma.)

but, because of a war, offensive technology (high powered lasers, plasma, power armor) were invented. alot of them by nikola tesla (google him).

then finally, since resources were spread thin someone nuked the west coast, the east coast hid, and the nuclear appoclypse happens. (noone knows who started the war, im not sure it has ended yet though)

after the bombs fell an acid rain fell for a long time, killing whatever survived the bombs. (mole rats are so stinkin abundant since there always underground, dogs took cover, survivers took cover, and alot of things that should survive the nuclear appoclypse (insects, some reptiles, fish,) turned over dead.

Everything is "Low Tech" fursur... after all the bombs fell in the '50's... and technology improvements pretty much came to a screeching halt. There might be people around with the smarts to push technology forward but the equipment available to do so had been destroyed. After all the Main Quest is based on that very fact.

And... in the end we must remind ourselves that this, after all, is a game and certain assumptions must be allowed and understood in order that the storyline moves forward and makes sense, kinda.

Could the sixual toaster be a Frank Zappa reference from the Joe's Garage album? ( latent appliance fetishist! )

I don't recall October 21st 2077 as being the 1950s.

Most of the low tech stuff are things that were cobbled together after the war, and all the high tech stuff are things that people managed to scavenge from the less ruined places.

"You can have six with Fisto regardless of gender, though most denizens of the Mojave look down on people who have six with toasters."

Fisto is a New Vegas character? For a minute then I thought you were talking about something... not rated for these forums.
