First of all it's hard to believe they haven't pulled this game off the shelves, i can understand some bugs but it looks like for the majority of the people this game has yet to even be playable. I'll give you one good guess why they are still selling it, cuz DUHHH they dont give a damn about us as long as there are people stupid enough to buy the game or as long as there are still people who have no idea about any of these horrifying bugs then there is still $$$$$$$ TO BE MADE!

after days of nothing but tweaking and troubleshooting of all sorts with no results, i went back to fallout 3 just to compaer since they are the same exact engine., i realized something, the same problems im seeing in vegas were in fallout 3 even after the patch and updates, just not nearly as bad, but even afeter all these years they could never make it what it was suppose to be. All im saying is that this game engine breaching the acient catagory, and for all of you so eagerly wating for this patch, im just saying dont get too excited, chances are you'll get this patch and after waiting so long for it, it will only be "a little bit better". i personally didnt fork over 60 hard earned bucks to preorded a game that wont work until a patch can make it just barely playable. and also it seems this game engine is effected very very differently on different types of pc's, so you can expect the patches to work for some, and for others not do a thing, in the end the diverstiy of the problems with this game and the architecture is was built on is too great to create a fix that will make everyone happy. and simiply the developers wont. right now im just waitng to see just how many people in the end are left dissapointed and with an unplayable game. i estimate it will be in the thousands.

Gotta 110% agree with ya facemanbenny. When i had fo3 for my pc and ps3 i could play neither for a while. But being a fool and listening to all the hype i bought the game the day it came out for pc and i cant even play for 5 min... I mean come on did this not happen to them when they were testing the game? Yet again a great game from Bethesda with sad disappointment.

As I stated in another thread, they need a pre-order CE edition on the GOTY version that has all the DLC in the box for the price of the original game, which usually happens in about a year or less.

Now THATS a CE I want to get my hands on :D

All the big*tm publishing houses do this they push games out fast and patch issues later. The level of brokenness varies and by all means wait for patches before buying but don't hold off all together or soon you'll find yourself boycotting everyone.

I'd caution people against blaming Obsidian for this stuff - remember that they only had as much control over the engine as Bethesda would allow, that Bethesda was supposed to provide support, and that Bethesda set the release date. Obsidian's history of buggy games is mostly due to publishers being unwilling to work with them on bug-fixing and release dates (see: KoTOR 2). Bethesda's history of buggy games is mostly due to their writing bad code and using buggy engines. Not that Obsidian's faultless, just that I recall most previous Bethesda releases being almost as buggy (or more buggy - Arena anyone?) as this.

Welcome to open world sandbox games. I haven't seen one yet from any company using any engine that didn't have many bugs at release that took a while to iron out. After the initial problem with auto and quick saves I'm doing pretty well now. There's still lots of things that need patching I'm sure, but I somehow played Oblivion and Fallout 3 for years without too much hand-wringing and count them among my favorite games of all time. I'm sure FO NV will be another.

well, whoever is to blame, we as customers don't really care about that. its better to wait a few months longer until a game is out than to get this crap. some of the german ezines have already started reporting about all the bugs. i couldnt install my uk version - it took me 2 hours on the forum to *just* install the game. then it wouldn't run. another 3 hours. it ran for a few hours, crashing merrily from time to time. now - post-patch - it is dead again. i have been looking into the forum for a solution, but no luck so far.

by now, i am pissed enough to deinstall the game and wait a few months until it is actually FINISHED. but you can bet that I won't keep my mouth shut about it to my friends at golem.de, de.ign.com and 4players.de

btw, the bugs i had to deal with:
- wouldnt install
- launcher got stuck
- program stopped responding
- crashed after movie
- crashed after 2h gameplay
- character got stuck (clipping error)
- wouldn't start after crash

in total:
- 6x reinstall
- 3x driver reinstall
- disabled zonealarm, deinstalled and reinstalled all codecs twice
- shut down steam, restarted steam, reinstalled steam

lost:
- my nerves
- the weekend (2h friday, 7h yesterday, 5h today)
- 8 cups of coffee
- faith in obsidian and bethesda

Really now? Well, Morrowind, Oblivion and Fallout 3 just worked fine. They had bugs, but not more than any other game. Same company.
Now, let us look at KOTOR2 which - as you may know - did not get finished in time. There were similar problems with installation in NWN2. Maybe Obsidian shouldn't be pointing their FNV forum simply to Bethesda.

Also, maybe the community managers here should be collecting all the bug reports and community-found solutions and create a few stickies and fork over some information regarding upcoming patches.

well my small tad bit of information is pretty clear... I think they make some of the bugs on purpose for all you pirates out there who d/l the game off torrent sites and try and play for free

but the fact that there is not a workable patch to allow a decent amount of actual game play is pretty pathetic... this game is awesome... to play when and if it works

I had no problems with FO3 - I installed the updates and a TON of mods with no bother at all.
That's why I am furious that FONV wont even get past the opening sequence - the roulette wheel spins a little, then.... black screen :(

Not true. GTA 3 was one of the first of the open sandbox games and it worked fine out of the box. Even Vice City for that matter. No, NV was released unfinished. It's a new growing trend where the devs rush the game out unfinished and patch it in the days and weeks to come. And I'm part of the problem because I keep buying this [censored].

By all means, do something against piracy. I am all for that. BUT: steam is in use anyway, so why the hell would you add bugs "on purpose". I mean, come on, my starcraft 2 is also running fine and using authentification against blizzard servers. They even included a mobile authentification app.

It's crazy that everyone's having so many issues when my experience has been a great one, not one CTD in over 30 hours of play.

The only issue I've had in 30 hours of play is the quick/autosave slot issue when re-entering game and my frames dropped a bit with lots of NPC but since I applied that direct3d.dll fix at around the 10 hour mark, both issues are gone now.

I've learned with past RPG's that at times if I game ever CTD it can sometimes corrupt quick/auto save game slots so manual saving has been a habit for awhile.

To hear guys say "they should have never released this game yet" I just can't agree with that cause that would I wouldn't be playing this game right now even though I had 30 hours of almost flawless play.

I find that most of the time, problems with these games can be linked to something wrong on the user's computer rather than the game engine itself. Background programs, improper driver installation, overheating, mods, etc. It's not necessarily obvious right away. I used to have a lot of problems with Oblivion and FO3 but after resolving to set up my gaming rig by the book, games run smoothly - stable, at least.

@ fountainhead -Yes.
Often those with probs are trying to run 1920x1080 8xAA etc. and have 6 month's lint on their CPU cooler...
If I had those probs I would disinfect my Windows, DiskCheck and Defrag it, and try to whip my rig into shape.
Nice clean OS install, no background crap running.
Heck, I even turn off Aero mode when playing...
But you cannot uninstall and reinstall everything 3 times - you can mess up your computer real bad.
As a PC repairman I've seen some unbelievable rigs, and the owners seem to think they're quite normal.
Pop the side off your PC and blow a big fan into it. Clean-boot PC.
Latest drivers from nVidia or ATI. Correct mobo chipset drivers installed of course.
Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player, no weird programs or codec packs, if you want a compatible gaming rig.
And easy on the settings - I play 1680x1050, no AA, 4xAF, no VSync and Medium settings.
My hardware can handle High settings but I enjoy the smooth, fluid performance of a 60 FPS minimum framerate.
But dude, good luck with that rig there...
Sounds like situation calls for more of an XBox type machine.

After going through various tweaks, I haven't had a random crash, save corruption, or the like.

Only problem I can forsee is that I haven't tested quest related bugs.

Fallout 3 worked great, this works quite bad, laggy and there's the AUDIO BUG I get which is a pain in the butt, havin' to set it to HIGH priority through CTRL ALT DELETE each time I run the game which results laggier experience due to messing with the process's priority.

Verdict : It's wrong, fallout 3 worked good, this should had worked too, it doesn't? They messed up. Rather release the game in two months, than release it now and fix it throughout the two next months, because many won't be able to play it within the latest patches which takes time and therefore rather release the game in a playable state.

Don't blame people's computers. Like I said, if you could play fo3 good, this should had gone the same.
