mainly cause of the graphics, restricted to first person, linear storyline, no guilds.

but not me, i will forever cherish Arena  :hugs:

I really dont.

I wouldn't even feel remotely qualified to make a statement one way or t'other.. I found Bethesda with Terminator:FS, and then anxiously awaited Daggerfall's release. I have barely scratched the (underworld) of Arena, as I never even tried it until last week (though I certainly -thought- about trying it a few times). I strongly suspect, since I found Daggerfall first, it isn't going to really excite me too much.

I enjoyed Arena, but there really isn't that much to do aside from the main quest. I mean, you can go into random dungeons, etc, but there isnt' nearly as much variety as Daggerfall provides. The other thing is that if you like reading the in-game books of the Elder Scrolls series, Arena has none, and is lacking in the Lore department. I liked Arena for what it was, and wanted to get through it just to say that I did and could. At least now I can read about the events that transpired in Arena (in the books in the later games of the series) and say "I was there, I did that".

I enjoy Arena, though it's a tad stale, but I still welcome it as a TES game (even if it feels nothing like one).

Generic D&D classes with kill-stuff-for-experience system is why I can't get into it. And I played Daggerfall first; sometimes you just can't go backwards.

The cheesy olde English is painful too, I'm so glad it was gradually phased out over Daggerfall and Battlespire/Redguard.

Same here. Just to know how it all started. I first played Morrowind, then Oblivion, so I was curious about the first chapters. I tried Arena first, got bored, then tried Daggerfall... got involved. So I stop Daggerfall mid-quest to retry Arena and now I got the hang of it. I'm anxious to finish it so I can go back to Daggerfall! But yeah, Arena is pretty straight foward, but it's harder in many ways. I'm level 13 and still die quickly when hellhounds attack me!

Despite being freeware, Arena is so blatantly ignored by the public. However, I love lore references to Arena. The Real Barenziah was really awesome. Like you guys, I was proud to be saying "I know that guy" or "I'm the one who found the Staff pieces after Barenziah looked through his journal". :D

Arena was the first one I played, sure I was five years old, but I loved it, my cousin taught me how to play and let me keep his copy because he said I liked it way more than he did. That was my childhood how bout you guys lol.

I like arena a lot just because it's my choice for a game in that old school style. But there are other games out there just as good as it. It isn't the spectacular feat of a Daggerfall.

I like Arena, but when I got Daggerfall, I fell in love, lol. Arena isnt a bad game, its just doesnt have a whole lot of content. I like running in a random direction to find a dungeon in the wilderness and beating it, if it doesnt beat me. I still havent completed but I plan to whenever I can. I'm on Daggerfall at the moment, which its really buggy. =(

I started a quest on Daggerfall and this woman told me to kill monsters that were infesting another inn. I killed a few bats and talked to her and Quest Completed! But then bats kept spawning near me wherever I went. A bug I guess, but in Arena, you dont have to worry about so many bugs =) But both are good games in my opinion

My main complaint about Arena is the enemies coming out of nowhere in towns at night. I mean, don't they have WALLS and GUARDS to keep that stuff outside? Especially the giant Lizard Men.

You're on your ship, enjoying the salt air. It's so nice up there, you decide to take a nap. "HALT, HALT, HALT!"

That happens in DF.

At least monsters can roam, and maybe even the guards are afraid of them.

Yeah, and why the houses are populated by those? I mean, where does everyone go at night, if they can't go into their houses?

It's all some grand conspiracy so the Tavern owners can make money.

arena plays the same as daggerfall, only that you can't create your class, it's experience driven, and there's no joinable guilds.

In other words, it svcks. LOL. j/k It's not bad, it's just not as good as the other installations of the series, especially its uber-rare son Daggerfall. And don't get me started on how it can't touch it's grandson Morrowind. It's even worse than its hyper-active great grandson, the big O.

Keep in mind that this was what bethesdas first attempt at an rpg. So of course it wont be the holy grail of the series.

...and Arena started off as a team-based action game, then team-based RPG, then single-player RPG. Much of this switching over was at the last minute I believe, and at the time I highly doubt that Bethesda had the aims they have now.
