Dont MODS just ruin the game?

Post » Thu Sep 29, 2011 3:59 pm

OK so ive played TES on xbox and ps3 so ive never been blessed w the opportunity to experience the masterpiece on pc. from what ive read it seems mods are basically inputting god mode and you can do whatever you want to the point that its not even the game you bought anymore.

im a big fan of the duplication glitch RIP (dam you, patch!) so i do enjoy bending rules, but some of the things i hear about mods..... well its pathetic. ex, someone spoke on a mod to teleport so as to avoid all danger within a dungeon and complete a task.....Whats so fun about that??! IDK maybe some of you can explain to me why mods are great(SUPPOSEDLY)

edit* ok so before i get deathreats and tomatoes thrown, i had little understanding of mods n thought the were just weak cheats...

The mods are all about changing up the gameplay to better suit your style, have fun, and just give you a lot more options to enjoy the game.

This smells like a troll thread.

If not however just think of weapon mods, gfx mods , new cities just everything you can think of. Many of them enhance the gameplay.

...Then just download mods that you LIKE. No one's forcing you to download every mod that's released. Be selective. I only download mods that are lore-friendly and that enhance the vanilla game and add to the experience.

Mods don't ruin the game, they make it even better.

I play on 360, but the virtue of mods is pretty clear. It allows people to alter, modify, or add game content in a really significant way.

Example: many people hated how bows worked in Oblivion. They were too weak, they lacked punch. The Better Bows mod improved the feel and damage of bows, making them work how they really should work (and it did this without unbalancing the game).

Other mods entail graphical improvements, additions of entirely new cities, reimaginations of old cities (one mod rebuilt Kvatch, for example).

Some mods make the game silly or appear to be not fun anymore, I agree...but the vast majority just add awesome new content that the devs didn't.

Mods aren't cheating... they just add content.

The console is cheating though, but I don't care if someone else cheats... it's their 60 bucks they can do whatever the hell they want.

Mods have nothing to do with cheating. Yes there are some poeple who make cheat mods. But Mainly modding is to make new quests and storylines. To add new ideas and homes, etc. The CS is there for people who want to be creative and add more to their gameplay, not just for cheating.

Some mods add to the game and some take away from it.

Yes, some mods are pathetic and just useless, some made for children to use (God Mode/Endless amount of money/teleport over the challenging parts)

But others smoothen out any flaws that might be found, some even ADD quests, various weapons/armor.

Personally, I think everyone should play the game as it is first and THEN add mods afterwards.

Some people who add mods don't actually want to play Skyrim... they just want to play... a game.

you clearly have no idea whatsoever if you think mods are just cheats. They're the community's way of tailoring the game to it's own desires

Most mods add whole new levels, and fix glitches, or add unique features.

no they make the game whatever you want, so if you want to be in god mode then you can be, but if you basically want to add anything else you can

There are mods that touch the game mechanics and that can be considered cheating sometimes. But others just change graphics, add (not overpowered) items, quests, NPC's and so on.
In Morrowind I used a mod that added pieces of chalk to the game, so you could write words on the ground. Very useful to indicate what caves I had already looted. Is that cheating? Another mod made the creatures textures more detailed. Cheating?

Why would anyone download mods like this? When I download mods, I get http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9qFr9NHPqw&feature=related.

It depends what mods, but saying all mods ruin the game is not true. Some mods like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bd8LQbQcgWM do nothing but make the game better along with mods that add more weapons, more creatures ect.

You don't have to download cheat mods, they are OPTIONAL. You CHOOSE what you download.

I personally like mods that give my character more appearance options, like hair styles and eye colors, or clothing mods. I also like house mods, because the vanilla houses usually don't suit my tastes. There's also quest mods, for when you've done pretty much everything else in the game. Some people (I'll mention Simyaz and AlienSlof) have created some really great mods, both for adding new quests and for changing the way things look.

Some mods fix what the Official Patch doesn't fix. For example, you bought the Bruma house, but there's no fire in the fireplace. You live in the coldest region and there's no fire to keep you warm. The Unofficial Oblivion Patch mod fixes little details like that, because for some reason, the Devs who put out the official patches seem to overlook things like that in favor of other things.

BTW, you've opened up a whole new can of worms.

People are arrogantly religious about their mods. So much so, that they take deathly offense to anyone who doesn't like/care for modding. Sad really.

But then you'll find people who are moderately fair about their opinions and will openly discuss them with you. That's a rarity in the "modder's world"

Well... Depends really... there are many type of mods. Graphic mods obviously make the game much more beautiful. There are House mods, village mods, landscaping mods, quest mods, companion mods, romance mods, nudy mods...

For me, OB needed a LOT of help. I had over 100 mods (never counted... but definitely more) But in Fallout 3 and NV, I basically just used the Graphic Overhauls and a few quest mods... occasionally the shiny new gun... but never anything too overpowered ;/

Not every mod is a "god mode" mod... If we wanted god mode, open console: TGM (Toggle God Mode) :P

Mods can fix alot of annoying things.

Like making stealth truly a threat by changing a simple modifier by one.

(Stealth Mod OB)

Or changing up the graphics.

They can do much.

They can even make the game more difficult.
