That doesn't mean anything, Skyrim is indeed a mountainous location but it does not suggest it will be all moutain, after all no one would like this.

..its not all snowy mountains....it borders 4 other provinces all with varying landscapes on the borders and a BEACH to the north. Skyrim is cold because of its topography not because its north.

I actually wouldn't mind too much ^^ But of course I prefer some variation

No. And from your own example of Solstheim, it wasn't even all snowy. C'mon man.

I think the mountains in the back drop were mainly for effect... Looked great, though! I certainly wouldn't mind if the terrain looked like that, BUT I'm sure it won't. It will be a lot more diverse, I'm thinking.

Only the Mountains and the area around Throat In the Mountain will be snowy. The rest will be damp and cold but not Snow.

This is an incredibly illogical conclusion to come to. They couldn't have shown every environment in the game, so they chose snow covered mountain tops, probably because that is what Skyrim is best known for. It doesn't mean that there will only be snow covered mountains in the game.

And besides, most of us have seen this footage, seeing as how this is what introduced the game in the first place...

And with Bethesda you never know. Cyrodiil was supposed to be a endless jungle with a rain forest and all that. Skyrim could be a candy mountain!*

*::nono: don't insult others conclusions.* Yes there will be many mountains. That doesnt mean that it is ALL mountains. There are forests and varying landscape. In a region so big there is obvious some variety.

they wont make it all snowly. probably the southern half and eastern part will have less snow maybe. Anyways. I would hate an all snowy game. that would kill unique locations and its not aesthetically pleasing at all. I mean snow is. But if its all snow and mountains i think not. They will have to have variety. Even if the southern half of it is not snowy yet the northern border in oblivion was snowy... doesnt mean that it has to have snow either. Oblivions an entirely different game and skyrim does not need to be consisetent with its landscape.

When I am in, say Colorado, I can see snow covered peaks of various sizes in the distance. Therefore, The Rockies = Solstheim.

I doubt they would just repeat what they have done - that would be boring for the developer, let alone the players.

I'm guessing it will have peaks and valleys just like Oblivion. The further up a mountain you went the less vegetation there was. The lower regions will probably be densely forested, although I'm sure there will be many more mountains than previous games.

It seems like in the the middle of Skyrim, next to the moutains (according to http://ui09.gamespot.com/2344/skyrim_2.jpg map) there could be either plains or forests. Skyrim looks like a place that can have some pretty variable climates, anything from beaches to jungles to hills. Perhaps why they chose Skyrim in the first place! Who knows!

At this point, I think most/all speculations on the game will be proven inaccurate. Don't let that stop you from inferring, though.

Oh, you went there. You totally went there. I don't think -that- as i'll refer to it as to not spoil it. Can ever get old. :icecream:

Back on topic. Yeah, it's absolutely ridiculous to think Skyrim will be nothing but snowy mountains.... Just... Seriously?

Just because one picture shows snowy mountains doesn't mean that's all there is in the game, if that were the case, than Oblivion wouldn't have had snow or swamps in it, because those certainly weren't seen in the first screenshots I recall seeing for it. That image likely shows only a small part of the actual map, and of course the first image you'd show would be snowy mountains, because people expect to see that in Skyrim, that doesn't mean it's all Skyrim has to offer, Morrwind wasn't all ash covered wastes either, but I think Vvardenfell just wouldn't have felt the same without them. Besides, it looks to me like the image isn't even an in-game screenshot, so there's no telling how accurately it reflects the actual game.

In conclusion, this really doesn't prove anything. We will see snow in Skyrim, I don't think anyone doubts that, and we'll see mountains, no one doubts this either. But it's widely accepted that this likely won't be the only type of landscape Skyrim will offer, and this image does not prove this wrong.

Question, people keep saying that Skyrim will take place after Infernal city, ala 40 years, some say 200 years after Oblivion.

Didn't the nords expand their province into parts of morrowind? / Solsthiem? if so will this be mirrored in the game? do you thing?

From what i hear that picture doesn't have anything to do with the game,It was put there by the guys from the vgas as a backdrop.

The large mountian peak that is just west/South-west of Whiterun, Is that the supposed location of Hrothgar? I can only imagine the epic climb to explore that area.

I'll take this as proof I converted you to the belief that Skyrim takes place after the Infernal City? :P

If it is 200 years who knows what all could change between the end of the infernal city's sequel and Skyrim. Plus we don't even know what happens in the sequel yet. But let's say things stay the same, I would hope it will be reflected in game. Unless they only give us a portion of the province again like they did with Morrowind.
