doorknobs changing color or hue when first used

Post » Wed Mar 09, 2011 12:02 pm

wouldn't it be great that you can see beforehand if you already were in a cave or house or castle room somewhere in the past BEFORE you enter said place and after a few minutes you realize you've already been there twice last month...those who played oblivion know what i mean...

i'm not a dreamer thinking that impossible features could be added only 8 months before games are released, though this feature seems not that hard to implement whilst making a huge difference for the gaming comfort of us players

EDIT:
maybe it's time to give an example of a possible scenario:

1. you enter a huge cave, let's call it the dragoncave, it's added to your map...on first sight there's no problem and no need for subtle doorknob changes (or any other door system for that matter)
2. so you're deep into that cave when you realize you urgently have to attend some other business or worse; you're over-encumbered and have to get home to swap some things
3. time passes and you forget about that cave (one of the 130!!)
4. weeks and caves later you look at your map and you see that you're already been in the dragoncave cause it's on your map...except you haven't finished the cave and who knows what great things you're missing out... (and yeah...of course it's not a problem to keep track of a few huge caves...but it's something else to know exactly what happened in all 130 caves over the course of a few months! ...and that would be only for the caves...)

Different Colored Text saying what it goes into is fine.. not exactly needed though because mini map prolly will show already visited locations and everywhere I go i explore it 100% before i leave most of the time

Why does everyone try and make their polls funny instead of just going with the classy, yet always elegant; "Yes", "No", and "Other (explain)".

How is it a biased poll? It's a simple question that really doesn't have any bias

I mean there's really no between there's yes I want a change in color or no I don't want a change...It would be silly to have a between

Option 3: I want some doors to change colors but not others

It doesn't work!

:P

In any case I don't particularly care. I'd rather it be left out. I don't need the game to hold my hand telling me where I have or have not been.

I was thinking option three would be an "Explain below" one. If they had a different idea, that does the same thing.

That would prevent you from potentially getting lost ~so I vote 'no'.

Is that a good thing now?

But I really don't see the need for this. At most for dungeons, but even for those it should be shown only on the map.

Do you're door knobs at work/school change to show you've been there? I would be upset if they added a feature like that - more upset than the "red hand" for stealing. We as players need to take some common sense, rather than follow our HUD's.

What about...look at map? it tells you were you've been and haven't been for exteriors to interiors and if your in an interior a simple check shows were you have been and haven't been..

I would rather the cursor change color when you hover over it. Like stolen items. If they still have that.

No... There is the automap (and I wish it was dependent on PC perception for accuracy).

There should be points that accrue over time, that allow you to post a poll (at cost).

I don't get it. Why would you want this? Even if you go through a door and find you've already been there...just go back out through the door. I don't see what the problem is. It's an open world game where you'll be returning to past locations several times and familiar locations will have new things sometimes and...yeah, what's the point of this? I seriously just don't get it at all. I feel like I'm missing something.

Maybe to even out the balance of the poll (ie hide you bias/ridiculous idea) we could change the "yes it would be an important feature" to "yes, because I'm too lazy to look at the map where it tells me already so doors should glow for me"

You shouldn't be able to just barge into other peoples houses anyway. If you walk up to a locked door and you aren't in sneak mode you should knock or something.

Poll options are pretty biased, but I picked no. It's immersion breaking and doesn't really do anything that important. It might save you, what, 5 seconds? Is that extra time really worth having all doorknobs in the game turn blue eventually?
