Dosbox closes when I enter the play commands

Post » Thu Feb 10, 2011 4:03 pm

I was told to type this code in:

mount c c:\dosgames -freesize 1000
c:
cd dagger
fall z.cfg"

When I did that before I installed the patch, the promt would be messed up looking with all these colors.

Now when I type that after I installed the patch, DOSBOX closes. Help?

Go into the dosbox exe properties (right click>properties) and uncheck the box "close on exit" and then the window should stay open long enough for you to read why it closed.

I'm guessing it's a error message about a missing CD, in that case you might need to edit your z.cfg to point to the directory with the CD files.

I don't see it having that "close on exit" box anywhere, which tab is it under?

Oh that might just be for DOS executables. I'll look for the Dosbox config option to keep the window open after errors.

EDIT: In your dosbox config file, is the setting "waitonerror" set to true or false? Try changing it to true if it's on false, or vice versa, and then run the program again.

Changing it to false didn't seem to make a difference.

Can you post your z.cfg for me? Open it in notepad and post the contents, it should only be a few lines long.

And you did the huge install and copied the entire CD directory to c:\dosgames\dagger\arena2?

I'm not sure, can you explain that a little bit more?

When you installed Daggerfall via DOSbox, you mounted the CD-ROM directory, mounted C:\ with the -freesize 1000 and ran install on the D:\, choosing the largest installation size?

Then you copied the contents of the daggerfall cd directory, to c:\dosgames\dagger\arena2?

Did you follow this guide to the letter?

But I changed it to the c:, so what do i do now, manually copy them? If so what are the files/folders called?

And no, I switched between that guide and daggerfall_legal_and_installation.pdf

It's working now - or seems to be. I'll update in a few with more detail. :)

I didn't download the new freeware release of Daggerfall as I already have the game, but I think you should just delete the folders you made, except for the DFinstall.zip file, and then start over from step one of that guide.

I couldn't tell you what to do next since I don't know what you did in the first place.

EDIT: Saw your post, good luck! :goodjob:
