ive followed the instructions for the dosbox configuration to the letter, right to the point where im told to edit the config file of dosbox, which no longer exists (im assuming due to a more recent version) so i cant edit the memory settings etc. i've done everything but edit these settings and when i try and run the game, dosbox by itself just shuts down, and via d-fend reloaded, i get a vague message saying "daggerfall has encountered error 0, press enter to exit".

so my question is, am i going to have to find the older version to fix this, or is there something simple i'm missing?

No, you definitely want the newest version. It's faster and generally more stable and more compatible.

You should be able to edit the config file from a link in the start menu if you're on Windows. You can find it at Start->All Programs->Dosbox-0.73->Configuration->Edit Configuration. That will open the config in notepad.

When you have the settings done you can try it again.
