Double Tap Triangle/Y for Grenade :(

Post » Tue Dec 04, 2012 8:49 am

The double tapping is a little tricky, I realize on console controllers devs are running out of buttons, but I think maybe a press and hold may work more efficiently than having to double tap to get my grenade out. Too often of times I find my self trying to get my grenade but instead it switches to my secondary. Maybe even double tapping the reload button would even work better because after an initial reload I could hit it a million times and it doesn't change the game, unlike switching out my weapons with Y and Triangle.

Crysis 1 console version did a beter job in my opinion.

Even better would be a radial suit menu attached to one of the shoulder buttons, leaving the other free for grenades

Which they wouldnt: He talked about a Radial Suit Menu. You can have as many Suit Modes in there as you want.

I don't follow, is a radial menu like how the first one was on PC? Scrolling with the mouse over a 5 suit selection? I think that would work, I like the idea, but it might be too slow to use in MP

Radial suit menu = no suit multi-tasking

If you can explain to me how you can sprint, strength jump and cloak all at the same time with a radial menu then i'm all ears :)

Regarding grenade selection - didn't holding Y serve another purpose?

Doesn't take much explaining since the PC version of C2 already has its own version of the radial menu. Use that one and map it to the shoulder buttons, leaving the other free for nades

I dont think holding Y/triangle did anything in C2, it brought up the weapon menu in C1

That said, could you give some thought to abandoning this idea of suit multi tasking, make C3 more skill based and less cloak based.

in Crysis 1 for 360 and PS3 the Y/Triangle button would bring up a weapon selection menu.

In the Crysis 2 campaign pressing right on the d-pad would scroll through your grenades, C4, JAW. Pressing and holding triangle/Y would bring up the weapon attachment screen. The double tap for grenades is mostly on the multiplayer side of the game.

I do know that in Crysis 2 multiplayer there is nothing that holding triangle/Y does. Obviously pressing right on the d-pad in multiplayer is for calling out the 3, 5, 7 dog tag streaks. On the PS3/360 version the change weapon animation was out of sync, I suppose is a way to explain it. The weapon would change the player would pull it out and it would show on the screen solid and then disappear for a half second and re-appear now with the player walk bobbling motion. I would like to see more fluidity between the weapon switches in Crysis 3. From a balancing perspective the inability to switch guns fluid it has led to the exploit of the "Double Melee" where players are able to hit their enemies by gun but, hit triangle/Y to switch to their secondary, then hit melee again, R3/RT-Y/Triangle-R3/RT and it leads to their enemy getting killed within more than half the time. I'm not sure this is a problem on the PC, but on the console it's evident, someone will hit you with their primary weapon and after they kill you they will have pulled out their secondary.

Also in Crysis 2, because of the weapon switching made guns on the ground difficult to pick up. They had a much too small area for the player to grab the gun from the ground and it took quite a few seconds to swap guns from the ground. I'm very much looking forward to a more polished Crysis 3 multiplayer experience in 2013.
