Doubtful! Clans? That svcks! What topic can I write to pass

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 7:45 am

It's getting quite irritating to see the same questions everytime I log on. Want to join my clan? There's a thread for that, did you check? Can we do this? Well, check the Bible. I'm doubtful it will live up to it's expectations. Well, then don't get the game and stop complaining, friend! It's not just me who's noticed this. Wraith has to continuously reply "Here's a link to the Brink Bible," more than anyone should. Moderators lock topics, and continue to worry about people making threads for the hell of it. People, please, before you ask a question, check, so we don't have pointless threads being created, read, and locked two minutes later. It's getting to the point where we can't even go onto the forums without having to see the same posts everyday. Anyone who agrees, help me pass this point. We're here to discuss the game, not to complain. I know a lot of you will agree, there are so many flamers trying to pass the time on here, or being too lazy to search previously answered related questions. Thank you for reading, I sincerely hope new members will read this and understand the stress they put on the moderators and members.

Yes but there is also this From this forums Admins :

There are a lot of repeated topics on the forum, and as the game gets closer to release, and after, there will be a lot more. It is called enthusiasm - a desire by new members to get thoughts, ideas and questions onto the forum and the majority do not bother to check more than the first or second pages to see if anything has already been posted. I am fine with that.

The forums are for discussing the game, I get annoyed (yeah - really) when someone posts a curt reply linking to a topic from a week or more ago and often rudely saying "use the search" or "look at the link in my signature", in fact I consider it quite rude and unhelpful. It is fine to link to a previous thread or information from elsewhere, but it also helpful to give an answer to the OP, it encourages new people to be part of the community and makes them feel welcome, something we all want. There are a number of members on here who have been around a long time and have seen it all, however, lets try to be kind to the new comers and give then all the help and advice they ask for, even if it does seem you are repeating yourself for the umpteenth time.

You can disagree all you like but we will give warnings to anyone rude to newcomers and that would include someone rudely telling them to search. Some people do read everything they can get their hands on, others come to the forum to find out if they are interested in the game and do that by asking a quick question or two. Being rude to them only serves to shove them away from the game and dim their enthusiasm to play the game. The more that decide to play it, the more competition and the more competition the more fun everyone will have and the more sells which equates to more and better games. That is how it works.

And yes, there will be sub-forums as promised when they are ready. Until then we have this section devoted to discussing the game, assisting others to understand the game and what we know about it and to welcome new members/players and speculate about the game.

If you want to politely link someone to another thread about the same discussion fine, but make sure you do it in a polite manner.

edit: Oh and don't call other members lazy, new or not. It's flaming and will result in warnings and suspensions.

And they are right in every way.

Well, apparently the old thread didn't change much. Time to pass the message again, huh?

I just think opening a new thread to try to prevent people from opening up so many new threads is a little silly is all. Kinda like protesting protests. Even if you have a valid point, the usage of the medium in question makes the point invalid.

True they are excited but when there are 3 threads on the front page on the same topic... sigh.

I try and be helpful most of the time. I mean we have all the info in one nice place, they don't have to go look through all the interviews like I have. I am always willing to pass along info.

I am more on the side of: Post some info and carry on. The game was changing so much. beta this, beta that. This is not the way it is anymore in that video.

How hard is it to post an answer and if there is a link, do that too?

I am not really here to read a TON of info that is out there from 4-6 months ago let alone a year or 2 ago. It DOES invite more people to become interested in the forum and to talk amongst one another. It's what makes a community.

If everything was click this link and read for 30mins instead or giving an answer cause you know it, then it makes for a boring site.

f you want more "crunch" and less repetitive "fluff" to respond to on the forums, then by all means, start a topic. Generate some dialog, yes. That would be constructive. But a thread devoted to "educating" newcomers and complaining about a perceived lack of "meaningful" topics is not. It's simply rude, and counter-productively enough, it clutters the forum. No one is obligated to respond to every thread they see- if a topic bores you, move on. If you cannot be bothered to be patient and helpful to new posters, then do not respond. Post in another thread that does interest you, or hey- start a new topic yourself.

I'll quote Rohugh again, since it really does say everything that needs to be said:

There are a lot of repeated topics on the forum, and as the game gets closer to release, and after, there will be a lot more. It is called enthusiasm - a desire by new members to get thoughts, ideas and questions onto the forum and the majority do not bother to check more than the first or second pages to see if anything has already been posted.
