Doubts on dragon fighting....

If I am right. Aren't dragons supposed to be immune to magic. If Bethesda actually adopts this belief then how will mages kill dragons? :mage:

Depends on what lore you look at. There are hundreds of different dragons and thousand's of people's takes on them. Magic will be as viable as melee and bows because those are the three main combat types. No changing that.

Dragons are immune to Magic in some books , movies etc.

I highly doubt that Betheda would unbalance the game THAT much over a few novels.

Of course, they might have certain resistances, but immunity wouldn't make sense.

I'm sure there will be nothing stopping our all powerful mages from blasting a dragon, well, besides the dragon.

Unless it is in TES lore it is kind of irrelevant, but D&D is the original fantasy RPG out there and dragons were not immune to magic in it. Resistant yes, immune no. Even a great wyrm dragon was not immune, depending on color I think it usually got up to around 60% resistance, which in 1-2e meant 60% chance to ignore and given spell. 3.0 and later made their spell resistance much easier to get by if you were appropriately leveled for the fight.

The mages just made that old chestnut up. They were too scared to fight them.

But it does look like the Dragonborn hero is immune to fire in the trailer?

/Sigh

I don't understand why people feel the need to make entirely new threads for simple questions when there is http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1161098-dragons-a-thread-to-discuss-all-things-about-skyrims-dragons/.

That being said. Nowhere have they said Dragons are immune to magic. You'll be able to fight them with whatever form of combat you prefer. I actually think spells will be highly effective in dragon combat. Not just the bolt spells you shoot but the traps that they trigger or spells that do damage from mid range. I plan on having a Battlemage, with spell and sword for combat and hopefully their is a magical shield i can caste on myself. That would be very helpful vs Dragons.

I doubt so, at most a high value in fire resist.

The dragons will probably be resistant to fire. Not sure about other types.

That would be quite interesting. Some dragons immune to magic, others to melee. This would encourage running the hell away from dragons if you're not ready. :bolt:

Alduin Dragons are immune to all non-dragonborn attacks, hence why you are so important.

There are Red and Black dragons and then there is Alduin Dragons (aedra)

I want my character to be able to sixually appease one. Obviously, intercourse would be a physical impossibility but there are other ways to satisfy the arcane winged beasts.

Certain dragons might have resistance to a certain element (Frost Dragon, Fire Dragon, etc.) but I doubt they'll give them a full-on immunity. That'd just make the game hard for mages.

Eh, maybe his shield was enchanged with a fire resist or something. Doesn't really bug me, magic is what magic does.

Maybe in some settings, dragons are immune to magic, but it's never been said that they are in Skyrim. And really, I'd actually think it's more logical for them to be very difficult to be killed by mundane means, with magic being a more effective approach. After all, dragons tend to have very tough scales which are hard to pierce with normal attacks, magic however can avoid this, but that's beside the point. The fact is that it's never been said that in Skyrim, dragons are immune to magic, and I doubt they will be, after all, killing dragons is a central aspect of the game, I can't see Bethesda counting certain character types out from it. Now, they might have resistences to some elements, or maybe a certain amount of reflect or absorb magic (Since Bethesda seems to like to do that for high level enemies.) but full immunity to magic seems unlikely.

Though I suspect that the most effective way to kill dragons is with dragon shouts, but I can't see it being the only way, especially since in the trailer, the player character is clearly able to hurt the dragon using his sword, and actually only does one shout, and whether the fight is scripted or not, there's no logical reason why Bethesda should have the player use normal weapons against the dragon if that won't actually work in the game.
