Well I think modders and devs draw inspiration from same sources, from other side how explain this
Crystal Golem

Frost Atronach

I wonder if they know? Bioware had published NWN, only to discover rather obvious portraits of Robert De Niro, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Angelina Jolie, and others in their portrait art. They had to patch the game with replacement artwork.

Nobody "copied" anything...

Vikings/Norse = Scandinavian explorers and sea farers with a flare for raiding coastal villages and generally scaring the [censored] out of everyone.
Fantasy Nordic people = Horned, tall, tough as nails barbarians, grown hard from living in frozen, harsh lands. A fantasy based on just how much the real Vikings scared people.

The horned barbarian look is as old as fantasy. It's the default, and most logical look for a fantasy warrior living in the north, and it's been that way for a very long time.

You know it looks an awful lot like http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj125/Gizmojunk/rune_boxcover_wallpaper_800.jpg as well.

The question is did the Modder copy it? because he uses parts from Oblivion. Iron helmet and stuff.

Umm. the only thing they have in common are chest straps and a pauldron. Which are pretty cliche viking armors.

I find it hard to believe that people who have to draw all this stuff don't take a sneak-peek at all the examples of other peoples work and copy a lot of it. Call me a cynic. I don't really mind.

It's also though, just as likely in an individual case that they just look similar out of coincidence.

I find it absolutely hilarious that the portrayal of Dragons in this game hasn't been called out, but most everything else has.

1980s Nordic Fantasy Hero? wants to let you know that he's not at all happy that Bethesda stole his look.

Strange (and funny), but true. I later thwarted their cover-up by releasing http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Portraits.Detail&id=6063 a while ago, in case you wanted to see the originals without digging into the NWN .bifs.

Haha, that's amazing. Did anything ever happen about that?

On topic: ask anyone in the western world to draw a picture of a "Viking" or a "Barbarian" and I guarantee 90% of it will look pretty much exactly like Dovahkiin. It's something that's in the collective consciousness, and it's used because it feels natural and logical in a low fantasy Nordic setting. They didn't see anyone elses version of a "Viking" and go "Oh, that's a pretty good idea! We couldn't have thought of THAT by ourselves!". That's just a stupid thing to suggest.

Played Dragon Age through once. It was alright, but could have been better.

But what does Dragon Age have to do with Conan the Barbarian?

Dude...dont even bother lol

By the way, the armors look NOTHING like each other. Just because it has a X design to it doesnt mean anything.

There is only so much you can do without inevitably copying somebody somewhere; and there is also "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptomnesia" to think about.

You sir, are my instant friend for showing pics of Rune. I have great memories of that game. In fact, I just might have to reinstall it one of these days. :foodndrink:

Ontopic. Is anything fantasy related completely original nowadays ? Nah.. Do we care? Nah.. As long as fits the setting and looks good.
