Isn't that the first thing 90% of players do when they first play Skyrim?
did you read the title? he is Role Playing, not Meta-gaming
I've done it; it's fun, although I spent most of my time searching for the perfect 'mountain-ledge-looking-over-the-valley-and-river' setting (and never did find it; any suggestions..?)
The closest ive gone to playing Bethesda's front man is walking around DC in that snazzy Armoured Vault Jumpsuit. A large part of a character to me is his gear and sense of style, which often has a lot of realism with the gear choices thrown in. I think that playing as the front man is a bit too generic for my tastes, especially since I dont think his gear is particulary neat looking, but i'd say go for it if you want to. If you're on PC you could try finding a mod to swtich the gear over to all one armour type, and maybe up the stats on it, or have it be craftable in variants that have the same stats of the normal armour sets, effectively replacing them.
I guess put me in the 10% that didn't. My first character was a female, dunmer with red eyes named demona. wore falmer armor and forsworn head piece... scary.
But on topic. I know this has been done before. While your not being unique by doing so, it could very well be a fun build.
