Dovahkiin

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 1:50 pm

So the trailer says that the one person that dragons fear is Dovahkiin, Dragon born. Obviously he's going to play a big role in the game. But who is he, and when will we encounter him?

I doubt it's just another mead-drinking Nord in some city. So where is he? Is he trapped somewhere, unable to kill the dragons and save Skyrim? Will the player save him somehow, help him kick dragon butt, once again becoming the hero's sidekick, the 'Champion of Skyrim'?

Or would it be the player himself? Doesn't make a whole lot of sense, since Dovahkiin is obviously male and with a mustache (as seen carved in the rock in the trailer), and Bethesda wouldn't take all the playable races and the other gender away. Or is the player going to be Dovahkiin reborn, a reincarnation, similar to how things went in Morrowind?

What do you think?

Yes, he looks male, but he doesn't necessarily have a moustache. We've been over this before.

I have a feeling that Dovahkiin will be a Martin-esque character that the player character will assist on his (or her!) journey. Here's to hoping Bethesda has some way to spice it up!

My best guess is he is some Nord who has no idea who he is yet, and our role as the main character is to help him realize his destiny. And along the line we do most of the work and save Skyrim, and he gets all the credit in the end

It would kinda svck if they reused their story from oblivion where you were just the errand boy for the big hero (martin)

I think you're Dovakiin.

That would svck... We wouldn't be able to choose our own race.

I personally would like to believe that the Dovahkiin is a prophetical character, and as such has been portrayed as a man in writings. That doesn't necessarily mean the Dovahkiin is a man, which would leave it as a possible role for the player to fill. I don't want to be the page boy of the real hero again, I want to be the superhero! :meh:

Oh dear please no! Let's stay as far away from that stinky Limburger cheese of a plot as possible. I thought the basic premise was pretty cool, but the way it was fleshed out left me with much more for which to desire.

Wasn't the Nevarine supposed to be Dunmer?

I'm hoping the player is the reincarnate (or whatever) once again, and not an agent for the aggrandizement of someone else.

I would prefer to be dovahkiin than to be their errand boy, i wonder if it'll be mix between morrowinds idea and oblivions.

Would be quite epic in some way to think you were assisting the dragon born, but as you progress you realise that you actually are the dragon born, and the guy you thought you were helping, was actually helping you

maybe akatosh influences the character into thinking he's a demon trying to destroy skyrim and sends you off in an attempt to kill him.
I always love twists like that.

It's all about me.

No, I think the entire story will be based on Dovahkiin. But yeah, you never know with what happens. It's Bethesda after all.

Well i could say that i wanted some cliché where you are Dovahkiin
But what i would want really is some sort of plot twist where you have to end up fighting Dovahkiin and the dragons

You might be Dovakiin.

You might help Dovakiin.

You might free Dovakiin.

The trailer certainly suggests Dovakiin is the saviour of the game, but I don't think we can rule out that he's a greater evil than the dragons - and is feared for that reason.

Well, never mind then. It could work like Morrowind, where you're the hero, but you get to choose who/what you are.

Unless I′m missing some major detail, is there anything more stopping the Dovahkiin from not being a male nord, than with the Nerevar and his reincarnation not being a male dark elf ?

I believe he will be the Martin of Skyrim. You won't play as him but you will play a major part in the main story.

I'm hoping that the Dovahkiin is a prophetic character who's long gone, or otherwise will primarily be a background element of the plot. I don't really want him to be another Martin-esque unlikely hero that you have to follow around. Being the incarnate of him might be interesting if it's well-executed, but I honestly want to see Bethesda do something new.

Maybe Dovahkiin is a dying King and you have to take up the throne.

I hope it is the main character, the person doesn't necessarily has to look like that, its just how they are depicted

I'm hoping this, yeah.

But it could very well be that the carving of him in the stone is more symbolic than what 'he' actually looks like.

Oh oh oh! Idea!

Perhaps Dovahkiin is someone who the main character and the Blades need to resurrect or otherwise summon to help in the fight against this BBEG. Maybe Dovahkiin will even turn on them! Oh, that would be fun... Having a little mystery in there...
