If possible I'm gonne make me a Snow Lion/Tiger Khajiit. He will be white with black stripes packed in heavy armour and a club and shield, so nothing like Beth is showing.

It looks like if you're going to be a male Nord he's going to be muscle bound. Weedy Nord is out.

No, unless if it's like Mass Effect, where any characters you make in the Character Generator is ugly except for the default look.

I would think it is possible, they have improved the customizing system quite a bit, otherwise you will always have mods.

I'm not sure but can someone confirm this? Is that a Nord in the gameplay? I hope that's what he looks like when we choose the race. He looks awesome!

All I will do is get rid of the facial hair...maybe, not sure.

I have not played the first to games so i will say this, Bethesda do not usually pre-decide your appearance, so this time around one could imprint the vision that the Dovakhiin on the screenshot behind these words "is" Dovakhiin. For me it kind of feels that way now, i will probably customize my character later but first if the option will be available, play as the 'standard'.

No. I seldom play a male character; I don't see why this game would be any different. Most of my Nerevarines weren't male. Several of them were khajiit and argonian. If I don't like the "default" character and have the option to create my own, I don't keep the default.

Yeah, the mascot does give the wrong impression about the game. 10 races (many of which look completely different), choice of gender, extensive customization options... yet they're still going for a Viking equivalent of Commander Shepard. Dragons would've made a better mascot.

Would be funny if they suddenly changed their example player-character overnight to an Argonian. That would REALLY confuse kids who are new to the series. :P

Even if my first character was a male Nord (which he/she almost certainly won't be) given the plethora of customisation options for appearance promised I doubt my character will look anything like the trailer guy. I don't play RPGs to play a set character (one of many things I disliked about The Witcher).

When you play Morrowind, the default character is Dunmer with the default face.
When you play Oblivion, the default character is Imperial with the default face.
Guess what, I'm sure the default character in Skyrim is pre-made Nord and then you can custom the race, appearance etc.

Morrowind always had this Dunmer nerevarine shown in morrowind promotional stuff. This time it's a Nord for obvious reasons.

It's this thing game companies do, that even in games where you can determine the character's appearance they try to make the default look impressive for people who just want to jump in. I, as it happens, really like making a character look as I'll play them, sort of like how, if you read the extra punctuation for Darksiders, how professional character design works. So if I'm going to go for "straight-up hero" I may well stick with default Nordic male Dragonborn as he's been shown in the demos and advertisemants. However, when I do other playstyles I'll be trying all sorts of visuals and backstories, like the ever-popular political refugee from Orsinium or the intrepid Bosmer soldier-of-fortune.

Except this is just as wrong with Commander Shepard.

The cover shows a common, bald marine, action guy, while you could customize your Shepard to your liking, even make it a female.
Heck my Shepard looks like a cross between Bruce Willis and Liam Neeson...

they may have him as the standard set NORD. kinda like how commander shepard in me1/2 the default male option was the guy they kept showing in videos.
actually, even in the ME3 videos it's the same guy! it's nice that throughout the 3 games they kept the same guy :)

Why yes! I am going to play as him if he is going to be the standard option, but only if I can name him Olaf or Otto.

No, I think of that as Todd's Dovahkiin. My little Breton mage will be my Dovahkiin. She'll be pretty and athletic and she'll be very nice and sweet and very much a lady right up until someone or something messes with her.

I enjoy the contrast of my little Breton overcoming all adversity as opposed to a big and beefy guy who, visually at least, has more strength and power behind his non-magic weapons. She shall prevail.

I will of course make my own, but seeing different player characters feels really weird. I don't really like how they did it.
