Dovakiin

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 8:16 am

If the Dovakiin was given the soul of Dragon by the gods... Why is he the adversary of Alduin/Akatosh? Is this mans way of fuzzing things up again? You know using the power bestowed upon them against those who gave them that power?

Obviously Dovakiiin aren't limited to the septim line, since this bloodline existed before alessa, so how are the dragons affiliated with Gods when the gods gave men the ability to fight dragons this way?

Any speculations?

Given a soul? I thought they had bred with dragons in ancient times and carried their blood and powers through their decendants. No reason why they shouldn't fight Akatosh then. If I have German blood in me it doesn't mean I can't fight Germans.

The same reason why Mankar Camoran was the enemy of Martin Septim. They were both Dragonborn, but they're two different people with different agendas. Just because you're Dragonborn doesn't mean you have to be something. You're the enemy of Alduin because you choose to be.

Dragonborn doesn't mean you're the child of a dragon.

One: The Dragonborns aren't nessesary following a bloodline from what I understand, but rather rare individuals(and a few bloodlines, like the Septims).
Two: See Veloriens post at #3.

Where does it say Mankar Camaron is a Dragonborn? I know he was wearing the amulet of kings, but I haven't come across that before. Nothing I've seen in the Camoran dynasty says that. I'm not doubting you just wondering.

It's never stated definitively, but since he can wear the Amulet of Kings, which is otherwise impossible unless you're Dragonborn, and following some lines in the Commentaries, such as:

"Offering myself to that daybreak allowed the girdle of grace to contain me. When my voice returned, it spoke with another tongue. After three nights I could speak fire."

Which god chooses a dragonborn. Not akatosh/alduin, right? How could that make sense? Why would you install your bane? So, which god(s) choose them?

Damn, I need to read the Commentaries. I sort of wrote them off as nonsense given the quality of Oblivion's additions to the lore at large (the Elder Scrolls themselves notwithstanding), but now it seems very relevant.

Ah ok. Does sound interesting that quote and what it may imply. Guess Dagon may have helped him there perhaps.

@ OP: Also keep in mind from earth mythology, many demigods came into conflict with the gods, such as Heracles and Achilles. (Don't know if it's completely accurate to call Dragonborn demigods, but similar I guess.)

My guess would be is that the power comes from Kyne.

If that were the case there would be some mentioning of Kyn whos more affiliated with the Nords than anything..........sigh confusion abounds when something that barely exists in current lore is shoved on the plate lol.........

Ah, but he's also dead...ish.

Mind you I'd be surprised if a Shezzarine along the lines of King Wulfharth doesn't show up along the way. Perhaps even the Dovahkiin himself is.

I'll rephrase that, why would the Gods bestow enough power to Kill them?

theres a cliche so far about the Dragon born basically being Dragon hunters.... who then gave them that power? are these Dragons God Dragons or Dragon Dragons etc etc...or is Akatosh once again mingling with Dragons again?

Maybe the allies of Shor are trying to subvert the agenda of their altmeri mirror-brothers and Alduin via the dragonborn?

Perhaps. He sure does like to forget he's dead.
