Download mods without FOMM?

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 6:02 am

It's most likely possible to download mods without FOMM, so I need to know how. All these program installments and stuff is really complicated and getting annoying, so I need some help as to installing them without FOMM. I already have a mod or two from the Nexus, I just need to install them.

Im sure you mean "possible to install mods without FOMM."

Yes, it is. Read the readme file that comes with the mod you downloaded and follow the instructions for a manual install.

In any case you should probably start by reading this thread: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/972878-fallout-3-mods-faq/

You'd be doing yourself a favor by using FOMM. It does a better job of managing your mods, and you can install them using it as well. It makes installing them so much easier it's not even funny.

The thing is I've tried FOMM but it says that I need something with 'write access' or something, and I don't know what that even means.

Are you running under administrator?

Have you turned off the UAC?

1: No.
2.:Don't know what that is, though I might, but I'm not fond of abbreviations.

Oh. Well, no for both. I'll try running as administrator sometime later.

Right click FOMM, click properties, click the compatibility tab up top, and click "run this program as administrator" and you're set. You just have to click "yes" every time you go to start it unless if you disable UAC. Rather than right click and click run as admin every single time.

Alternatively, uninstall Fallout 3 and reinstall it in some folder that isn't Program Files, for example C:\Games\ or C:\Apps or whatever you want to call it. FOMM will work fine, no need to disable anything.
