Aquarium

How about we let the actual game come out, before talking about downloadable content xD

I have to agree. Pre-release, already-made DLC is incredibly irritating.

there will be much more than two maps check out the map under the features section of the home page. Its a relatively large world. Also with how games are now and days there will most likely be DLC.

I can bet you my balls and schlong that they are working on maps already if their goal is to keep this game alive for a long time. It takes time to create balanced maps and even though they are finished (the maps) it takes a couple of months to deliver as dlc, probably much because of MS and Sony.

Both campaigns add up to 10 hours of game play from what I have read so each campaign is five hours long roughly. I would imagine that would entail more than two to 6 maps. unless each level takes like a half hour to play and even then it still wouldn't cut it. My point is I'm sure their is plenty of content and I have no doubt they will put in some DLC at some point. Usually I don't say anything but... Lol you only thought their would be two maps. If you had given that any amount of thought you'd have realized through common sense their would be more. Sorry if that sounds a bit [censored] like but I couldn't resist it was just standing their jumping in my face.

I believe every map is about 20min on average.

Also I guess each map will be used at least once in each faction's campaign.

Each objective has its own time limit, so maps can vary greatly in time.

What you have to remember is that a development team is broken up into different groups. The team that handles designing the maps is usually one of the first ones done as you simply cannot test everything unless there is an area to actually play. As a result they often resolve issues that the testers find and then begin working on additional maps that will not be tested extensively before release. It really all depends how much direction and instruction they are given by their leads. In some cases they are able to begin designing new maps while in others they revamp maps that didn't make the cut. You really need to have DLC pre-made before release or else you will have to wait even longer for it to be released as the testing process takes months.

Don't forget that most gamers have an attention span of no more than 6 months (unless they really love the game) so a developer needs to save as much time as possible to hit this window. If a game proves successful then you can extend that window even further but a year after release is ancient in gaming terms.

Splash Damage provided a patch to a free game (W:ET) 3 years after release, they supplied the last patch to ET:QW on their own without publishers help or financial input, I think they'll probably support Brink fairly well

I have never understood the more maps is better. I find that usually people prefer 1-3 maps and would rather play those than other maps.

Well, in W:ET you had some good standard maps, like oasis fueldump, goldrush. But a lot of custom maps were popular or semi popular as well. There were like 20 good maps that got played a LOT. Thinking about Supply, Venice, Caen, Marrakech streets, ...

No that is very wrong. Look at CSS they given no new maps for over 5 years. The games still one the the most play competitive games around the world.

On topic tho, i'm sure there will be DLC packs and or small updates with other maps on it. But 1st we wait and see what happens when the game comes out. :)

More maps do allow more variety, which leads to the situation that you'll very likely have at least one map to each one's liking.

True but SD has I'd imagine has put a lot into their original maps. Also there is a finite amount of space on the Ark and it would be hard for more to magically appear.

There is a finite amount of space, but that doesn't restrict the possible styles of areas too much. Judging by that ARK-display on the game's homepage, there are some wide open areas (solar fields) near the Founder's Tower just as there are those rather confined areas like Container City.
