Draconic - The Dragon Language

Post » Sun Oct 24, 2010 9:55 am

Hey Guys, as a start to my post, i will just let you know now that if your wondering, my username hopefully translates into "The Elder Scrolls" as i know that 'The' is 'Fin', Scrolls is 'Kel' and 'Kruziik' translates into 'Ancient' so i have simply taken a guess and translated 'Ancient' as 'Elder (be awesome if Bethesda could confirm this for me)', going by the example that 'Kiin' (as seen in 'Dovahkiin') can be translated into either 'Born' or 'Child'. So, now thats cleared up for those who werent thinking "What? Shut up and stop trying to nerd out on us and get to the point!" im just going to ask, is anyone else going to actually try and learn (if not just a bit) any Draconic for Skyrim? I've seen one or two people say they want a Dragon to Tamrielic Language Pocketbook, so i was just wondering, why not learn Draconic yourself instead of constantly having to go back and forth between a translater for the game? So in response to my own thoughts, i went ahead and learned the whole first part of the Skyrim poem (trailer song) off by heart (Dragon and English) and then a few extra words off that (also Fus (Force) Ro (Balance) Dah (Push) which everyone knows anyway), i havnt been able to learn the second part fully because i dont want to untill Bethesda can release a trailer showing how the second part goes (Because im pretty sure the gameplay trailer theyve already released consists of a new part to the poem which comes first in the song and then the main part of the song and not the second bit). Anyway, back on topic, are you going to try and learn the language? Incase some of you would just prefer the "Translater Book" style, here are some words for you to write down (mostly from the poem because they are the only words released right now), if there are any i missed out or any typos please let me know, other than that, enjoy and have fun learning :D

I chose the last option. Frankly the whole Dragon thing is overused. We can't be a dragon and kill people, so I guess we can only kill them. And that's what we do. Kill them.

Axe to head. I'm not going to be speaking Draconic to other people. They'll think I'm crazy and send me to a mental institution, where they will not let me play Skyrim.

I wonder if the dragon language follows other european languages with the adjective after the noun, in which case the elder scrolls would be 'The Scrolls Elder'
I studied latin for a bit ages ago but I can't remember what form it takes, and I don't pretend to know anything about the dragon language.
