Dragon aAge and Oblivion?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 3:40 pm

Does any one find the story line between Dragon Age: Origins and Oblivion simaler. The king, or emporer, dies and you have to go out with your freinds to find allies to fight the invading darkspawn,or deadra, army.

Yes, I do too. Here's something I wrote in another thread on these forums: "You know, the more I've played Dragon Age more its plot reminds me of Oblivion. Invading hordes sent by a god from another plane of existence to conquer mortal realm...King/Emperor dies in the beginning of story...travel to several cities in order to persuade the cities to send reinforcements...self-effacing traveling companion who becomes king/emperor..."

havnt played it, so havnt noticed it, but i would say thats pretty similiar. i'd say thats pretty low for a gaming company. taking the basic story of another and using it like their own idea. It does still look like a very fun game though.

Are you people kidding me.

"Oh no! The otherworldly [censored] is taking over our land with his horde of demons! Are you a bad enough dude to kill the otherworldly [censored]??"

Yeah. They STOLE that wholly original and brilliant narrative from Oblivion. Jerks!

There are king, emporers in almost every game in this type of game.

They are not similar like that. Saying such is rather absurd to a massive degree.

Oblivion: The EMPEROR is assassinated.
Dragon Age: The KING is killed in battle due to betrayal.

Oblivion: A god threatens the land by opening portals.
Dragon Age: A Blight comes that happens every few centuries.

Oblivion: Travel to cities to ask for help.
Dragon Age: Travel to many places asking for help of the treaties.

Oblivion: The Blades
Dragon Age: The Grey Wardens (ohnoz)

If anything, it reminds me of Lord of the Rings. Stop getting so unnecessarily defensive over a concept that has had its tread worn down a few times.

Nobody said anything about it being stolen. They said that some parts similar, which they are.

well, when you put it that way its not that similiar at all really. guess it just depends on how you define it yourself. Either way i dont care, as long as the game is fun to play, i say make the storyline however you want. :)

Yeah! And now I'm doing it again!

If you want to compare it to anything from TES, compare it to Morrowind. Asking help from ancient documents/agreements/tests. Blight. Killing a bad dude. But at the same time, Oblivion/Morrowind weren't novel ideas. So getting defensive is kind of ridiculous.

I agree. Seems to me that there are quite a few RPGs with similar formulas out there, in any case.

To be fair, Oblivion's story wasn't really unique. I wouldn't be surprised if the plot has been done before Oblivion. Though I never played Dragon Age, I'm pretty there are major differences.

down boy. here, have a cookie. :cookie:

you'd be hard pressed to come across a game nowadays that doesnt take some sort of element from another game. Being a gamer myself, i've noticed this quite a bit. just look at the COD and MOH series' as two examples.

I think he was comparing COD and MOH... not them with TES.

Uhh, technically speaking, neither the archdemon or darkspawn are from another plane of existence. They're always present and the dwarves have to fight them off in the Deep Roads constantly. When they all join into a huge army under the archdemon and emerge, is when it becomes a Blight.

But yes there are similarities. Get the hell over it, nobody's plagiarizing so lets not all get our panties in a bundle over the matter.
