Dragon Age: Origins & Awakening & DA2

After the way BioWare has handled their announcement and publicity of this "super hot" game, all I can hope for them is Bethesda drops TES5 news and destroys the disgusting half-reptilian bastard child that is DA2 for good.

I'm going to be opposite and say that I'm definitely going to buy Dragon Age 2. And DA3 as well.

Anybody have advice for a rogue/archer build?

I really didn't like daggers, if you arent constantly positioning your guy behind the mob you dont do a lot of damage.

Go with an archer and max out all the archer skills, arrow of slaying is basically a super critical, and scattering shot is a mass crowd control move. Make sure you avoid any rogue talents that mention backstab damage as it is useless. Archer is imo hands down the best class.

I play on the 360, so maybe daggers are less of a hassle on PC.

Go for around 22 strength, 19-20 cunning and dump into Dext

Does anyone know at what level duncan's sword and dagger from the return to ostagar DLC are made of dragon bone, i tried to get them but they were only red steel this time.

From what I've heard, it always starts out as red steel but items can be upgraded by selling them and then buying them back, however, I haven't tried this myself. Or if you have Warden's Keep, then you can use the chest in it to upgrade.

Vohod... whatever, here's an http://www.somethingawful.com/d/video-game-article/dragon-age-reaction.php

I heard that we will not have direct control over party members in DA2. Please tell me this is a stupid rumor feeding off all the negative criticism regarding changes to the series.

That's simply someone misinterpreting things.
The Console version will get a better adjusted control scheme for joypads, but the PC version will retain the tactical combat scheme and overhead view from DA:O

How does one use the chest in Warden's Keep to upgrade? I have heard this before.

And also, that article was very funny... because it's true.

I think the best thing for them to do is be rid of the radial menu and have a KoTOR style panel in the corner which you cycle through using the D-Pad and cycle through enemies using the shoulder buttons.

Leveling exploit. Basically you stick an item in there, and after a while, you go back, and the item will rise to the tier closest to your level. Doesn't work on all items, but most will.

And I'll bet with you that when Bethesda announces TES5 we will see the same kind of outnerdrage because of some change or another that the hardcoe folks can't agree with :)

It's something you get used to seeing everytime a sequel to some popular game is announced. The Daggerfall fans nerdraged over how ridiculously tiny Morrowind is and that you can't even climb, the Morrowind fans nerdraged about how dumbed down Oblivion is, the Oblivion fans will find something or another to nerdrage about.
Different game announcement, same [censored] everytime :)

People just get hung up in the comfort zones of the games they know and love, which is entirely human, but also makes you cope badly with change. The trick is to kick that comfort zone to the curb and value each game in it's own merit. Just because a game doesn't play exactly like its predecessors doesn't automatically mean its bad.
I've been playing games since more than 20 years and I can comfortably say that games have overall just gotten better and better.

That article disappointed me. It did not poke fun at any of my grievances (namely the voiced protagonist and ME-style dialogue wheel thingy). I feel so left out. :(

I think the storage chest only does that on console. On the pc you have to do the sell/buy back routine. I have done the sell/buy back routine, since I play on pc, and didn't want to get stuck with low level Commander's armor late in the game.

I liked this one a bit more. http://soundspam.blogspot.com/2010/05/voice-in-biowares-dragon-age-origins.html It did cover some of my pet peeves with ME/ME2 dialogue. Don't get me wrong; I own and play all the games, ME/ME2 are good at what they are, but they aren't the old traditional "successor to BG" that DA:O was supposed to be and that was the reason that I bought it. I'm currently doing a replay of ME2 [great stress relief to blow things up, and I want to know why the heck Frogger reappeared in Overlord] and I noticed this during the "recruit Thane" mission when you first enter Dantius Towers. The dialogue hint says "I'm sorry". What Shep actually says, "Who did this? Who shot you?" There was another one a short time later but I can't recall it now. I don't like taking a guess at what the dialogue will actually be, when the hints can be so far off...

It's been confirmed you can only play as a human.

My reaction to all this: They are "Mass Effecting" the game.

Oh please, they're already voicing the protagonists and giving them a backstory. I, for one, could never play a male Shepard due to his absolutely cheesy deadpan macho delivery. The female one sounded like a butch truckdriver, imho. And there's huge difference between wheeled dialogues and the ones where you actually know what you're gonna say. And the "epic" story usually means more big baddies and marching armies and the usual cookie-cutting epic-melodrama-music-during-huge-battle-scenes crap everyone's already seen on every corner.

The one thing that made DA:O stand out is how, after an ocean of ~epic~, one could sit down and enjoy witty party banter while providing numerous dialogue choices, all the while having fun on a personal and smaller scale.

I hope they don't assign 'good' responses to the top of the dialogue wheel and 'bad' responses to the bottom. I know people who play Paragon characters on Mass Effect and always select the top response as it is certain to be the 'good' one. I also don't understand why the dialogue wheel is so fantastic, I hate how it paraphrases every response, it defeats the purpose of choosing what to say.

Yep, it also leads to stpid out of character moments. "couldnt you have disabled the ship" leads to me telling garrus if he is responsible for not saving innocents he is a terrorist with a badge, right after letting balek blow a few people up. If I had know the choice would be different. I dislike the dialouge wheel. Also this is likely to remove stats (cunning) effecting my dialouge.

The developers promised that the hints will be closer to the pronounced line in the next game to prevent confusion. This will make the difference between the wheel and the numbered dialogue options much further from "huge", not to mention that the conversation wheel has 6 options, just like the old system.
I would like to refer you to my older posts where I have collected developers' answers to these very complaints by forum users. In short, just because a game uses a similar system, does not mean it has to implement it in the exact same way, quite the contrary, actually.

And the "epic" story usually means more big baddies and marching armies and the usual cookie-cutting epic-melodrama-music-during-huge-battle-scenes crap everyone's already seen on every corner.

You're contradicting yourself here, implying that you don't actually like the "epic scenes", when there's a lot of them in DA: O, which would mean you dislike (or at least you make it seem like you do in this post) a big part of Origins.
So far there's nothing pointing against witty party banter in the next game and I don't see how the wheel would prevent this from happening (see above). I doubt devs would give up their favorite aspect of the game (and they stated they wouldn't, in fact, there's gonna be a lot more of this, and since the player character is now fully voiced, he will be able to respond while they're traveling).

A plus on the other hand is that the emotion that accompanies your character's dialogue will be displayed. We could have had this on the old dialogue system but its good none the less.

Race only determines where a couple attribute points at the very beginning will be, and never amounts to much.
