Dragon Age: Origins & Awakening & DA2

Those are barely recognizable as the same game. Also it looks like they tried to go all WoW with the art style and add some cartoon flair too it, and spikes and angles. Plenty of that. I'll definitely not be getting this... side game.

Haha if this is here, I really want to see the BW forums right now.

Oh gosh.
I can't believe what I saw.

They should change the artists right now while there is still time.

It's been confirmed that they are still working on the graphics. Plus, we don't know which platform they are on. And, people who played the game at Comic-Con said that it looks just fine.

I dont care what platform it is, because they wont change that much, someone already put a nasty image in my head saying what the new DS look like. And the Ogre, damn. A good saying is dont fix what isnt broken, the DS looked fine, if bioware didnt rush this out, they could have a good game, shame. Graphics improve, not this. Also how will they explain darkspawn went from creepy and BA, to I will quote another person "looks like they are wearing S&M outfits" its still creepy, hust not the intended way, if this is the art direction, quit while ahead.

I'm going to wait for more info/videos/screenshots before jumping the gun.

Then again, this happens with every game. I bet you a lot of people will react like this to changes in TESV.

I really don't care, I just laugh at them.

Just to clarify, those are the early Dragon Age: Origins screenshots. However, we don't know how far into development these were, compared to DA2 ones.
Still, I swear it seems like some of you people enjoy bashing the graphics, when in all honesty, they're not half bad and are still being worked on.

I could go on, but tbh after a while of reading the same arguments over and over and over again on the official forums, and then here, it gets a little tiring.
The same thing happened when Origins got announced. People immediately started jumping to conclusions and hating on its various aspects, and guess what? They loved it in the end. I'm not saying every one of you will love the sequel, of course not, but basically saying it svcks 7 or so months before release is just as silly.

The point I'm trying to make is that that's how Dragon Age first looked. That only shows that the graphics will be worked on, and not left how they currently are.

Agreed. I guess it's the "cool" thing to do.

Edit: Also, a good preview: http://comic-con.gamespot.com/story/6270917/dragon-age-ii-hands-on

Some good quotes from it:

Console controls work the same as Origins: you pull one trigger to open a radial wheel of talents, spells, items, and whatnot. This screen freezes time and lets you fine tune your aim on a particular enemy. But playing as the warrior, we favored running around, using the talents mapped to the face buttons instead. Overall, the sense of movement is less clunky, the animation more fluid, and the blood more plentiful.

Overall, the combat didn't feel remarkably different from the first Dragon Age. It flowed a little more smoothly and moved at a quicker pace, but that was mostly because our talents and spells recharged quickly after using them. That could very easily have just been something BioWare tuned for this public demo--likely a lowered difficulty to help ease players back into the experience. After this admittedly brief demo, we're confident that BioWare knows what they're doing. This isn't going to be a hack-and-slash game.

I know what you meant, but the thing is DAO was in development for about 5 years, and we don't know when they released these screens (at least I don't).
Still, even if the graphics do not significantly change in these 7-8 months, I won't be disappointed, the look's starting to grow on me (yes, even the pointy edges). :)

Nice article, I'm liking most previews so far, except the IGN one ("we are not nerdy enough"). :shakehead:

Heh, that caused quite a bit of rage at the BioWare forums.

Yep.

I went and looked over some more screens from DA2 and it seems that they only failed with darkspawn, the dragon looked nice
but overall I'm not impressed by the setting or by graphics at this time.

Sad, Dragon Age used to be the best what have happened to gaming in long time.

One thing to note though about the comparison pic, the darkspawn from Origins is from a cutscene, which I assume is pre-rendered.

And if you are disappointed with the current graphics, then wait until they release screenshots from the PC version later on.

I'm not worried about the graphics actually, as much as I fear that they will change the story as another "Commander Shepard" type of adventure.

Im not so much disappointed with the graphics as i am with the new art style they are going for. I know it is still in concept stages, but what was wrong with the last game's art style. I don't like the pointy overkill armor.

Also someone should make a new Mass Effect thread already so we can discuss Lair of the Shadow Broker. :hubbahubba:

I don't believe my computer can run it too well, but i'd rather get your input first:

2x Pentium D 3.0ghz processor (I know, its old)
8600gt GPU
3GB RAM

It's really not that good... at all... but hey whatever, that's why there's always the 360

I recently received bought a PS3 version of Dragon Age: Origins, and I love it. It reminds of Baldur's Gate. How large is the game(in hours of content)? Is the expansion worth the price(the game and the expansion are both $40 at my local Best Buy)?

I'd say on the first playthrough you can easily get up to 70-80 hours.

If the expansion is worth the money depends on who you ask. Awakening has a playtime of about 15 hours, which is absolutly fine in my book for the price (considering that most full priced games barely last 10 hours).
Of course the people who think a game has to be atleast 200+ hours long to be worth full price will disagree with me :)

Here's a preview for DA2 I found:

What can I say, I've been spoiled by TES and Fallout :/

Still, 15 hours is pretty good for an expansion I suppose. Better than most 5 hour long DLCs. And 50-70 hours for the main game is also great considering, as you said, most full priced games last 10 hours.
