Dragon Age: Origins, Awakening & DA2

That looks a lot better than anything in Origins.

That is mainly because they can concentrate on better lighting and textures because of less objects used. I for one welcome this change - it's a whole different kind of atmosphere, but a great one nonetheless.

Yes, it's good. But I don't think you can rent games from Blockbuster for 40 days.

if you have the online pass

I was thinking of getting this game. I am still not shure yet. I guess I will get it for the 360, because if I get it, my son can play it on his 360 as well. I am playing Morrowind and a bit of Oblivion on the computer. I am still not use to playing on a computer so I want to get a new 360 game.

Why should I get DA:O? I am just not sold yet.

I love all TES games. I love Fallout 3. I am waiting for New Vegas but still a month away so I want something to try out now. I also loved Baulders Gate I and II. Never finshed any of these games. (Well I rushed Fallout 3 just to say I finished it before BS came out.) I also liked playing Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic but I never finished it either.

I usually play like a Jedi, magic powers and then using the sword when no magic powers left. I also like to steal things or pick locks and sneak.

So should I get this game, with the bit I said I liked. Is there more info I should give?

*edit* I am a bit turned off reading one of the DLC is crap and looked like a money grabber. I am very leary of the game now.

Sttealth is done badly, you can make an arcan warrior to do the magic then sword combo though, but mana regenerates soon enough. I say go for it, then get awakening, it all impors into DA2 and may effect future games, though the WH dlc shows how bad the game is at recognizing choices...

The DLC svcks (most does in general). The main game is awesome, one of my top games of 2009. I recommend it.

If you liked Bioware's previous efforts, like the Baldur's Gate series (which DAO is supposed to be a spiritual successor of, but that's another matter entirely) and Knights of the Old Republic, you'll probably be at home here.

I remember you saying you need a family friendly game that your son can play as well, well DA: O is an 18+ rated game and there is some content that you might find is unsuitable for your child (though I am unsure of how old he is). Search for the "six and violence trailer" on Youtube, I can't link it here. That said, I think you should get it for yourself, watch a few gameplay videos or rent it first if you are so unsure. In my opinion, it's an utterly brilliant game and an amazing experience that I think you just shouldn't miss.

O M G :bolt:

Thank you so much Rabinna. This is the first time I even herd of DA:O having six. While it's nothing big, I can't have my 9 year old son seeing this. What a shame. I would have loved to play this game. Sadly I can't right now. I guess I will have to wait for New Vegas then. The violence dosn't usually bother me, but I will not be getting Gears of Wars because it is a bit too extreme for him, and the fowl language in Fallout 3 is ok, because I rather be there and tell him it's not acceptable to use that language instead of him hearing in on the school grounds.

So I guess I will not be getting this game now.

Thanks again for the warning. I am just surprised I haven't read about the six in DA:O. I thought this would have been the first things talked about.

Is there a toggle to turn this off by chance?

Wait so six is really bad yet the gore that fallout had = fine 0.o also you realise in fallout I can actually see thier eyes popping out, its not just random blood splatters. Also fallout NV has hokers, even a robot named "Fisto" and the six in DAO is nothing. Hell you wear underwear.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDPBHNPDyj0
Zevran and Leliana are both bi too.
Also why not just not let him play it, it isnt exactly a game for kids, oh and there is nudity.

If you still want this get awakening, no six, still got a broodmother though.

I'm going to have to agree with everything I just quoted.
No, you can't 'toggle' the six scenes off, but you can avoid them by not pursuing any kind of romance, though that can be a little tricky. But like was already said, they're nothing outrageous, but they were widely talked about, to be honest, I'm really surprised you didn't hear about this already. That said, the game *is* serious and I just don't see how a 9-year-old would understand all that is going on in the plot. There are tons of dialogue and choices to make.
I am also a little amazed that you are so willing to miss out on good games because of your son. Like said, just don't let him play it. Or don't let him see you play it, whichever you prefer. You're denying yourself a lot of fun, instead of just playing them for yourself and letting him play them when he's older.

yes, I've played DA:O and the six scenes are infrequent. I don't think you wouldn't accidentally reveal a risque cut scene in normal play .

should 9 year old be watching gore. I'm not prudish. other parents should make their own minds up. for those of us who enjoy gaming but have young children around it can presents some tricky decision.

that doesn't make it suitable for a 9 year old to play. there are, in any case, better games for 9 year olds to play.

some of he DLCs seem to me quite expensive - you're paying for 2 or 3 hours gameplay

I'm not going to complain too much - its no more expensive than buying a DVD - but it does contrasts with Oblivion which takes ages to play. and I played morrowind for what seemed like for ever without it becoming a grind

so is Awakenings good value ?

Awakening is worth the money I found. I really enjoyed it and its definitely got replayability as a full-blown expansion.

Of the other DLCs,, I wouldn't really say any of them are particularly worth the money. If you're particularly interested in maybe a few more items and a bit of story they might be worth it, but otherwise, you wont miss much that you can't just watch on youtube.

I played through Witch Hunt last week. That was bad. I constantly had the feeling of deja vu while going through the various places available in it. The characters were okay, but fairly uninspired (looking at Awakening and Witch Hunt ones, I kept thinking "Is it just me or do they all have similar personalities / voices?"). Even if they had been interesting, I wouldn't get to know anything about them, with the DLC being painfully short and all. I don't see why we couldn't simply travel with our old companions, see them one last time, at least. I guess they thought they had so little to offer they could at least make up some new companions. The boss made no sense at all. I would've preferred seeing it in DA2 for the first time. It was also very easy to beat. The final confrontation?

Spoiler
I went up to Morrigan and chose "I want to see my son." and then... she kissed me. But my Warden wasn't in love with her! Apparently Darrian just kind of went "Zevran who?". That pissed me majorly off. So I reloaded and stabbed her. I would've liked the option to go through the mirror anyway, or not let her go through the mirror (why let her go, if you stabbed her? Who knows if she can regenerate on the other side). I had very little control over the situation and Morrigan was acting all high and mighty the entire time, without giving me any answers (but apparently, I can go with her and learn of everything anyway. That didn't make sense to me).

I like how the devs seemingly managed to make the majority be at peace with the Warden's story being over, but then introduced Witch Hunt and got everyone riled up again.
What a bad DLC.

Quick question. I have enough points for the new DLC so I was thinking of getting it. Anyway, which warden do I import? My awakening warden or my origins warden? (I imported my original to awakening) since I want know how this DLC will effect DA2

I don't know about DLC for it, because I'm pretty sure Throne of Bhaal ended the BG2 story line (been years since I've beat it). Plus, from what I understood, BioWare doesn't have the rights to Baldurs Gate, Atari does. I liked BG/BG2 more as well though.

Anyways, Dragon Age was a decent game. It's not one of those games I want to play all day every day for weeks on end, but it gave me a good couple days of play time. I'll more than likely pick up the second one on release.

Been playing DA:O again

I started a new mage character (I left off before without having too much appreciation for mages)

Now I'm playing the game a lot differently than I did before and find the experience has renewed my interest in the game. I do however, still have some problems with combat. Ranged combat is somewhat annoying when controlling it directly. For some reason, even if there is nothing obstructing my line of fire, the character I'm controlling seems to always have this uncontrollable urge to run up as close to the target as possible before taking action.

The point of ranged combat is that you are attacking from a distance.

Other than that combat is more enjoyable and more tactical though I can imagine it getting quite annoying when I have to fight the larger mobs. The frequent pauses make the battles last longer but taking the time to assess the various situations can save the party from taking too much damage or even dying.

I disliked awakening, it was too buggy. And short, the side quests also felt irrelivent and dint effect the epilouge.

Some spells have a very long range e.g Winter's Grasp is 25m and doesn't even require line of sight. Some other spells have a short range e.g. Horror is only 8m and also requires line of sight. If this is your first time as a mage I suggest that you read the descriptions of the spells and use them accordingly.
