Well, I was gonna pre-order it anyway, so I might as well do it now and get some free stuff with it.

I'm tempted to preorder, but $ 50 US still seems like a lot of money, to me. I have to admit I paid full price for the first Dragon Age game, but I don't know if Dragon Age 2 will live up to it. Guess I have some thinking to do.

As I said, I was gonna pre-order it anyway. I enjoyed the first one to the extent that I feel the sequel deserves a pre-order. I'm avoiding any most of the info that's coming out about DA2 to avoid getting over-hyped about it as that will inevitably lead to disappointment, and part of the reason I enjoyed the first one as much as I did was because I knew very little about the game before I played it, and I was pleasantly surprised. :)

True, DA:O was even better than I had expected, especially the various origins and the voice-acting.

yes, I've played DA:O and the six scenes are infrequent. I don't think you wouldn't accidentally reveal a risque cut scene in normal play .

should 9 year old be watching gore. I'm not prudish. other parents should make their own minds up. for those of us who enjoy gaming but have young children around it can presents some tricky decision.

that doesn't make it suitable for a 9 year old to play. there are, in any case, better games for 9 year olds to play.

I laughed when one of the first dialogue options as a female Dwarf noble was a six scene. At least I think it was. I never clicked on it, but it was pretty obvious. :P

Speaking of which, I'm restarting said female Dwarf noble because I learned you get to keep all money when they take your items, so I should sell them before I finish the origin quest. I also took herbalism as a skill before realizing that it was something any other party member would be able to have and I probably should have just put the skill into more combat stuff, or maybe persuasion.

Do like being a Rogue though. It's perfect for the character you end up micromanaging all the time, because you have to get in backstab position. A few questions though: is Dexterity or Cunning more important for a Rogue early on? Also is there a way I can save and transplant my face settings to a new character?

Some spells have a very long range e.g Winter's Grasp is 25m and doesn't even require line of sight. Some other spells have a short range e.g. Horror is only 8m and also requires line of sight. If this is your first time as a mage I suggest that you read the descriptions of the spells and use them accordingly.

Oh no it's actually ranged spells like winter's grasp that it happens on. For some inexplicable reason, from time to time, my characters have the overwhelming urge to run up right in front of the enemy to cast the spell. I've seen them cast it from farther away and I've done it before but there are some very frustrating moments where characters just have the urge to run up to the enemy. Nothing I do or say can stop them they just run up to the enemy no matter the range of the spell. I've had a bit better of an experience with my rangers using bows but sometimes they have the same problem too.

I've only ever had that happen to me when my mages are either out of range for their spell or lack a needed line of sight. Rangers I've never had that problem with.

I had already watched the trailer but thanks for posting as I'm sure many people still haven't watched it.

I really liked it but trailers always look nice so let's just hope that the game doesn't disappoint either.

It actually begins during the early parts of Origins (specifically, when the Darkspawn overrun Lothering), and from there, unfolds over a ten-year timespan.

I'm still really skeptical. It just looks too stylized. I can get beyond the graphics, but even the combat looked bonkers. I hope they don't mess this up :)

Yeah. The backgrounds are still bland, the spiky armor still looks silly, the new Darkspawn still look stupid, and despite Bioware's every attempt at making Dragon Age's aesthetic stand out from the rank-and-file of fantasy, it's still generic-looking.

Yeah, honestly I prefered the generic look, instead of this they could have tleast made the generic look look nicer. Also not fussy on the new combat I saw, I think I will wait for this game to drop before trying, this isnt something I would pre order.

I find the new Dragon Age 2 trailer lacks something distinct that made the original so special.

Please don't flame me, but I've been a member of GameSpot for the last 3 1/2 years, and I'm receiving regular updates on DA 2.

One of the latest (Updated Hands-On - Spotlighting the Rogue), the editor says, in part, " While you won't be playing as the unstoppable force of nature that we first experienced in that original Comic-Con demo, BioWare is still aiming to turn Dragon Age II's combat into a more fluid, less clunky affair--all without trading in the tactical elements that made the first game so much fun."

It takes place after the city of Lothering falls in DA:O, iirc.

I'd rather reserve my judgement considering the first DA:O was basically just "HOT BABES WITH SPELLS BULKY MALES WITH BIG SWORDS PREETENS CAN PROJECT ON". Maybe I'm just an optimist. Maybe I'm clinging onto the last hope that my favorite game since Bloodlines is getting a decent sequel. It's complicated.

Hey, if New Vegas could turn out great... :D

Just done the quest The Arl of redcliffe where fight all those undead baddies (for the second time), well I did it without any villager getting killed but I still got same as cut scene where you do it and some of the villagers die. just wondering if anyone knows why the same cut scene.

I wouldn't mind DA2 so much if Bioware focused on action combat and let go of the RTWP "strategic" combat used to try and appease the old-timers.

I liked the X-shaped crossbow in the new trailer, though I feel like I've seen it before. I don't like how there are family members for your character; it seems like one of them is bound to die (for real), but with "New Bioware", I can't tell- congrats, Gaider.

Unfortunately they seem to have removed or changed just about everything that made DA:O enjoyable for me. While my mages were okay, and I enjoyed playing them, my favorite characters were dual wielding rogues and warriors. My warriors used a bow as well; sometimes taking a few shots before closing to melee range was a good idea. I was happy that, unlike ME and ME2 they actually laid out the dialogue, and didn't have a voice actor that grated on my nerves like fingernails on a chalkboard. When I finally got ME, I made one male Shepard. Poor guy never made it off the Normandy to Eden Prime. I couldn't stand his voice. If femShep had an actor that irritated me to the same extent, the game would have gone into my "oh well, it looked good" pile. I liked ME and ME2 for what they were. I intentionally bought Dragon Age: Origins after following the development of the "unnamed Bioware rpg" for a very long time on the original Bioware forums. It was supposed to be an "old school type" rpg, and imo, it delivered most, if not all of what they attempted.

So now apparently only rogues can dual wield. Warriors can't use a bow at all. And they haven't announced who the two voice actors are going to be for Hawke. I could also live without the flashes of "300". Jumping around like a rabid kangaroo doesn't really appeal to me. And I could also do without the "sweeping cinematics". If I want to watch a movie, I will. I want to play a game, not "sweeping cinematics" with interactive clicky bits that have to be chosen with hints and an icon. I hated the fact that in ME/ME2 I had no idea what Shepard would say, besides good, neutral, jerk type replies. Sometimes what was said was nowhere near what I wanted. I guess I wasn't supposed to notice that while caught up in the "sweeping cinematic" experience.

I check their forums once in a while, hoping they'll announce the voice actors for Hawke before the game releases. The more information they release though, the less I want the game. Which svcks after how much I enjoy DA:O.

You shouldn't have. If you manage the fight with no one killed you're supposed to get a reward from Teagan. Did you get the reward?

Yes I got the reward off Ban Teagan, but still got the same cut scene where they are burning their dead at sea.
