Dragon Age: Origins, Awakening & DA2

20 Gigs Origins. Dragon Age 2 has 7. Do the math, that's all it takes to know how much of a disappointment this is.

I hated the system in DAA more than ghe wheel. I could never max oghrens approval, never got a good ending for him, limited gifts is fine, but very limited dialouge, and one wrong choice and you pretty much fail his quest.

That's not really the problem with the dialogue system per say, just all the [censored] bugs and "features" connected with Oghren. His approval toward you is reset to 0, but the tracking of gifts are not, so the most you'll ever get out of him is +6. Way to go, Bioware :banghead:. Whoever wrote him did a terrible job as well; his drunken habits have been exaggerated, whatever character development he went through in Origins vanishes, and there are far more instances that cause disapproval with him so you have to walk on eggshells whenever in conversation. And frankly, he deserves a real kick in the nuts for some of his actions (namely ditching his wife and kid).

How much of the information for Origins was for each of the origins? For DA2, you're restricted to human with one background, so no city elf; male and female, no dalish elf;male and female, no dwarf noble; male and female, no mage/tower, no human noble; male or female. Just because the size of the game is different doesn't automatically mean it will be a disappointment.

I have my reasons for not getting the game, but they have nothing to do with "this game is smaller so it will be bad".

I have legitimate reasons as well, but it's still one more piece of data.

http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/141/index/5474638/7#5479223

1 - We used a different compression scheme in DA II than DAO (something called "ogg" I am told).
2 - 2 less fully VOed langauages (no Hungarian and no Czech)
3 - Optimized mesh data, physics and lighting (which I am told reduces the footprint of environments by close to 75%)

According to a French interview, DA2 has 30,000 lines of dialogue.

http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/141/index/5522817

Origins had around 70,000 lines of dialogue.

http://forums.bioware.com/viewtopic.html?topic=692438&forum=135

EDIT: according to http://www.myformatfactory.com/OGG-MP3 using the OGG codec results in 5x savings of space for comparable audio quality vs. MP3. Is MP3 the format that DAO used?

Usually with Bioware games every bit of news gets me even more excited for the game.DA2 is doing the complete opposite.

When the game arrives in March I'll be among those posting to this thread to let people know whether it's better than you expect. I don't think it will live up to DA:O, but somehow I don't think it will be a disaster either. Having a ten-year timespan with a few jumps in time is an interesting concept to me, more so than feeling that your adventures only took a year or two in DA:O.

Talaran, thanks for the advice about the Tab key. I noticed this with a tree yesterday but I didn't realize how often the game depends on it.

I like the dialogue wheel of Mass Effect myself. Sometimes with the traditional "pick an option from a list of responses", I start wondering whether I'm playing a game or doing a long series of pop quizzes. I've never felt that the dialogue wheel gave me the opposite response from what I've intended.

Maybe they have more but they cut it for dlc like the prince dlc... And the other crap I have seen.

So that means in origins I should nver give gifts to him to help get him maxed in DAA ? DAA was just insane, one gift never spawned, and I messed up one option, couldnt find the other because of backtracking and failed.
The backtrack dialouge system is just terrible.
And sigrun I never did her loyalty mission because I recruited her after dealing with the crime. Great job with that. No notification, I wasnt even aware of a link.

Yea, DA:A was, and still is, bugged all to hell. Bioware's QA seriously svcks - clearly, no one bothered to playtest questlines when certain companions are not recruited, or when a certain order isn't followed.

I agree Awakening was pretty bad.

With Dragon Age 2 coming out so soon, it's time to play Origins. I'll end the game like I originally meant to, the ultimate sacrifice. Screw awakenings, it wasn't worth it.

Yeah I'm probably not going to do Awakening either. It's not that it isn't worth playing I just don't see the point.

Awakenings was okay, but I found the emotional impact of the Ultimate Sacrifice to be more compelling of an ending. Back then I foolishly had hope for the series though and though the US would be recognized. Turns out I was wrong, but I digress off to the game I go.

You ain't kidding. Not only does DA:A handwave the US ending, it ends up being retconned in DA2. If I pick up DA2 (pending reviews), I'll import only from Origins US saves.

How so they retcon it exactly ? "oh the arch demon dosent kill the guy, just knocks him out." Wait WTF why retcon it ? Its nothing to do with Hawke.

I was referring to the retconning of several of Awakening's companions.

Yea, I think Awakenings is that one game they regret making. Hahaha, I can't blame them. You could see what they were trying to do, but due to the limited time and budget of an expansion it never really came together as well as the base game.

Not suprising. I knew it would be them, no idea why they confirmed it though.
