Dragon Age: Origins, Awakening & DA2

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 12:31 pm

That settles it, after everything I've heard and normally I try not to be pessimistic about games that I never played and know next to nothing about. However so far DA2 sound more and more like a disappoint and a remake of the overused Bioware formula. Granted I will rent the game and based upon that decide weather or not its worth the money or wait till its at a bargain bin at a cheap retailer.

Man I can't wait for this game to come out. I was surprised that Varric wasn't a love interest but it makes sense after a while. You don't want the narrator of the story to fall in love with you.

I think they oversixualized Fem Hawke a bit but I don't care it's awesome. :celebration:

Have the Signature Edition pre-ordered, hoping it doesn't turn out bad. Looked at some of the screens in the latest GI magazine and the graphics almost look the same as the first game :(

Well, in this game, graphics seem to matter to many more people than usual. Even to those who usually don't care at all.
So the guys get at least one normal female, but the gals get
Spoiler
the cliche bishie elf and the mental patient.

Lovely. Yup, those vows of celibacy are looking pretty damned good.

No pirate love from you? I know Isabella is getting some from my Ladyhawke. :hubbahubba:

At any rate, those really were the most likely ones. So, no surprises here. No widow, no narrator, no DLC character, makes sense to me.

Normally, they don't, but when the devs and every previewer goes on and on about how "vastly improved" the graphics are, and they look like they've taken a significant step down, well...

The Graphics are fine I wouldn't worry about that. The thing that I would worry most about is Gameplay but Gameplay looks improved from what it was in Origins.

Because BW decided to retcon qunari and completely change the darkspawn because they wanted it to look more original.
If they are going to change lore to edit visuals it better be damn worth it.

Dunno about you, but I don't like that they hyped the game saying it will look "super hot" when it looks pretty bad.

Well I pre ordered DA II Signature Edition bascially as soon as that edition was confirmed it was the Collector's Edition :) so I hope it won't be a disappointement.

About the graphics though I am not going to judge until I play it myself...with all those technologies (DirectX 11, tessalation etc...) it should look great when Maxed Out but even then as soon as someone makes a great High Res Texture Pack I'll simply download it and I think that afterwards it will look pretty awesome.

Just got my new game informer and there's a piece on dragon age II. There's a Dead Space II armor code. Why Bioware? At least with Dragon Age it made sense. I blame EA.

Yeah. Did you miss any other premotional crap they have ? They have so much of it, you probablly missed more, especially if you missed the DS2 one.

I think I figured out who Fem Hawkes voice actress is. I'm 99.9% sure that it's Kari Wahlgren. She had a minor role in Origins and she did the voice of Ashe in Final Fantasy XII. If I'm right, wow that would be amazing.

I don't say this often, but: Well, duh. It's not one of their own games, so it must be one of the publisher's ones. ^_^

And I still don't get what's so bad about that. Don't want it in DA2? Don't use the code. Want it in DA2? Blame yourself for ruining the immersion.

Well, some http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/141/index/6070560/1 showing the new technology, graphics and stuff.
It's nothing breathtaking, but still in improvement in my opinion. Shinies ftw. :hubbahubba:

The only thing that is ruining the pics for me is the oversized anime sword. And the dumbed-down, neon-colored GUI. <_<

I can't judge the GUI yet, but these pictures are reassuring to me, especially the last one where Hawke is facing the "camera"/player. More colorful than DA:O was, at any rate, and the stylization doesn't seem as extreme in these photos as it did in some older pics.

I don't know how many times I've written this: The early pics are from an early build AND the purposely even more stylised introductory scene. Not only is the story of those as focused on the characters as the graphics are (and on how AWESOME Varric wants Hawke to appear), but several things are greatly exaggerated. The abilities of the Champion, Bethany's cup size, all this.

Parts of the demo got release early. The vid shows off a bit of the demo although not all of it. I think the video reinforces my theory a bit as to who Lady Hawke's voice actress is. I'm not sure who voices Bethany or Aveline but I can tell you that Mother Hawke is done by the voice actress who did Eleanor Cousland.

Edit- Apparently that video isn't part of the demo but of some other type of demo released at a public convention but not for private eyes. The demo is suppose to be a little bit different.

On A DA: Orgins note:

I am loving the replay value on this game. Going through for a 3rd time and still finding new stuff. There is really some hilarious dialog when you try being evil. :chaos: I can't believe I've been playing this game since 09. It has aged well, even my crappy console version.

Am hyped on the demo for DA2. It will end some of my speculation.

Though I was looking at some screens and thought the Qunari looked weird. I hope they have a cool role in DA2.

What do you think of this trailer for Felicia Day's web series, Dragon Age Redemption?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OF2mPgwrlT4&hd=1

I had never heard of her before I learned she was the voice actress for Veronica in New Vegas.
